Challenges in the PC market appear to be forcing HP Inc to undergo further restructuring

HP Inc has said it expects to cut between 3,000 and 4,000 jobs over the next three years due to challenges in the personal computer and printer markets.

The job cuts are expected to come as part of a restructuring effort by HP Inc to make annual run rate savings of $200 million to $300 million beginning in its 2020 fiscal year.

As part of the plan, HP expects approximately 3,000 to 4,000 employees to exit between fiscal 2017 and fiscal 2019.

The changes to the workforce will vary by country, based on local legal requirements and consultations with employee works councils and other employee representatives, as appropriate, the company said.

After HP split into the enterprise and cloud focused HPE, and hardware and personal computing business HP Inc, it was predicted that both companies would be able to operate more efficiently and effectively.

Microsoft's customer relationship management cloud is well-regarded, but most of the noise in the field is made by and about Salesforce and Oracle.

But Redmond now has bragging rights over both, as it's revealed HP Inc has signed up for its Dynamics service for CRM solution for our direct selling, partners and service .

Salesforce has been shown the door.

HP Inc has about 50,000 staff so the scenarios mentioned above show that not all will be using Dynamics.

But most will use Office 365, which Microsoft has also managed to sell to HP Inc.

That sale's not surprising: anyone that uses Office is being encouraged very strongly to move to Office 365.

HP Inc. has agreed to buy Samsung s printer business for $1.05 billion £788 million in an attempt to disrupt the $55bn photocopying industry.

As part of the deal HP will swallow up 6,500 patents related to printing and Samsung s team of 1,500 researchers and engineers.

Samsung has also agreed to buy between $100m £75m and $300m £225m in HP shares through open-market purchases after the sale is completed.

The deal is the first major move by HP since the company split itself in two in November 2015, creating HP Inc. and Hewlett Packard Enterprises.

The former is focussed on consumer products, the latter on enterprise.

HP Inc. believes the big-money acquisition of Samsung s printer business will allow it to take control of the potentially lucrative professional and office printing market.

The Electronic Freedom Foundation has written to HP Inc demanding it reverse its attempt to prevent any third-party ink cartridges or refilled cartridges from working in its Officejet Pro printers.

HP Inc, and many other printer makers, have traditionally sent users a Doomsday warning message when anything but their own expensive cartridges are detected.

These warn you of possible damage to the machine and that normal high standards might not be maintained by your use of cheaper products.

But HP Inc s latest firmware upgrade masquerading as a security update appears to stop any printing happening at all.

The EFF objects that HP is depriving its customers of a useful feature – to use any ink they choose.

It further accuses the ink giant of abusing the security update process by introducing doubt into the update and patching process.

You didn't miss a new standard: CMF is 'colour, materials and finish' and PC-makers use it to make us fashion victims

HP Inc says it has flipped its relationship with the PC supply chain, and made colour, materials and finish as important to PCs as CPUs, screen sizes and disk capacities.

Stacy Wolff, HP Inc's global head of design, told The Register today that four years ago HP's designers took what component-makers sent it, then designed PCs around those parts.

Today, he says HP Inc bosses component-makers, devising designs for PCs and then telling part-makers to bring devices that match its desired specs.

So do outfits lower down in the supply chain.

HP Inc has added a design bureau in Taipei, in part to get closer to Taiwan's myriad component-makers.

Biggest acquisition for HP Inc since split from Hewlett Packard Enterprise.

In a market play designed to grab a larger share of the rapidly shrinking global printer market, HP Inc is to buy Samsung s printer business for $1.05 billion.

The deal will see Samsung Electronics buy between $100 million to $300 million worth of HP shares on the open market after the acquisition is completed.

On the other side of the buyout, HP Inc will gain key laser-printing technology and be in the position to focus more on different market segments.

Signalling the biggest acquisition since HP split from Hewlett Packard Enterprise, the deal will give the company the ability to expand its portfolio of products and services, moving beyond printers to find new sources of revenue.

New sources of revenue will be vital for HP going forward as traditional printing declines due to the growth of mobile devices and digital services.

Whitman, who will still be the CEO of the split-off Hewlett Packard Enterprise, said that effective immediately she would be leaving her role and handing control of the board over to Chip Bergh.

Prior to the 2015 split-up into HPE and HP Inc, Whitman had been the CEO of what was known as Hewlett Packard.

While Dion Weisler has been the CEO of HP Inc since the breakup, Whitman had stayed on as chairman.

"HP has now been a standalone company for almost two years and I'm proud to have helped get the company off to a great start," Whitman said in a statement.
