If you were a fan of the Jak and Daxter games back in the days of the PlayStation 2, then you might like to know that they’ll be getting new life on the PS4 later this year.

Sony has announced that it will re-release these PS2 classics with a couple of improvements for PS4 players, including an HD coat of paint and support for trophies.

Before you get too excited, though, you may want to temper your expectations.

These aren’t HD remakes of the PS2 Jak and Daxter games – instead, Sony will upscale them to 1080p for the PlayStation 4.

There also won’t be a physical release, so the only way you’ll be able to get them is through the PlayStation Store as PS2 Classics.

We also won’t be seeing all of the Jak and Daxter games make their way to the PlayStation 4.

Sony has a long history of successful mascot-driven platformer games, from Spyro the Dragon to Crash Bandicoot to Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter.

But against all odds, Knack 2 manages to hurdle over the low bar set by its predecessor and establishes itself as a solid (if unspectacular) entry into the competitive genre of 3D platformers.

Every platform hero has to have a talent.

Throughout the game, I punched, kicked, stomped and shot hundreds of goblins and robots — possibly thousands.

His moveset is relatively limited when the game begins, but as gains experience (represented as Relic Energy), finds hidden treasures and advances the story, his abilities grow in number and strength.

And he’ll need every move at his disposal as the enemies he faces off against won’t go down without a fight.

Facebook s Oculus VR today announced the promotion of Jason Rubin to Head of Content, and Steve Arnold to Head of Oculus Studios.

Prior to joining the company in 2014 as head of worldwide studios, Rubin was best-known as a co-creator of the popular video game franchises Jak and Daxter and Crash Bandicoot, a co-founder of Naughty Dog studios and one-time president of THQ.

Oculus co-founder and CEO Brendan Trexler Iribe announced the shuffling of the personnel deck in a Facebook post on his personal account this afternoon.

There he noted that in his new role, Rubin will oversee the development and publishing of all VR content and experiences, including games, videos, apps, Story Studio, and more.

The news comes during the E3 conference, where the company has been touting its tactile, VR technology and games using Oculus Touch for Rift.

Oculus Touch allows users a sense of hand presence while they are immersed in a virtual reality environment, whether that s a more passive viewing experience or a game.

It s also why I still haven t given up on ReCore, despite the countless inexplicable design decisions and glaring technical flaws that threaten to derail the experience at nearly every turn.

DON T MISS: Exciting new features coming to Pokemon Go

ReCore is the story of Joule, a young woman who fled Earth along with thousands of other humans after the planet became uninhabitable.

She and the others who survived made their way to Far Eden, a planet they planned to terraform into a colony that could one day be the new home of the human race.

Not only do they power your Corebot, they also power the hostile robots roaming Far Eden, and they re the key to transforming Far Eden into the paradise that everyone dreamed it could be when they left Earth.

At its core I will not apologize for any puns I make over the course of this review , ReCore is a third-person action platforming game with a heavy focus on gunplay and collectables similar to the final two games of the Jak and Daxter trilogy .

That was the overwhelming feeling playing Yooka Laylee, the Kickstarted spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie from a group of ex-Rare developers, left me with.

After all, Mario is still going strong, and this year saw an excellent remake of the first Ratchet and Clank, but for the most part the platformers that are around today are the gun-toting Uncharteds and the Tomb Raiders of the world.

You play as Yooka, and Laylee sits on your shoulders, allowing you to perform special moves and providing a second character to bounce witty dialogue off.

It's a proven formula seen in Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, and of course Banjo-Kazooie, and if these games were more common in 2016 you'd be tempted to roll your eyes, but you almost get the impression that it's their scarcity that brought about Yooka Laylee in the first place.

The demo we played placed the two characters in an open level which left the player free to head in any direction in search of collectable pages.

Finding them required some simple but satisfying puzzle solving.

Every once in a while you get to see not one but two legends occupy a single stage.

It happened for music lovers when Billy Joel went on tour with Elton John.

And it happened for nerds at this year s VRX conference in San Francisco when Ted Price and Jason Rubin interviewed one another during a fireside chat.Price and Rubin are two giants of the video game industry that founded Insomniac Ratchet and Clank, Sunset Overdrive and Naughty Dog Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter respectively.

Price remains as Insomiac s head but Rubin is currently serving as the head of content for Oculus after selling Naughty Dog to Sony in 2001.

Rubin s job now is to produce as many outstanding VR games and experiences for the Rift virtual reality headset as possible, and Insomniac has already established itself as one of the early scene s major players with three VR titles released for Rift to date.Price and Rift took the stage at VRX to participate in what was expected to be an informal conversation, but became an in-depth look at the highs and lows of VR game development.

For his part, Rubin took the opportunity to speak to the future of Oculus content.

Plodding third act, over-familiarity, repetitive sequences.

'Cinematic', while the go-to adjective for almost any scripted action-adventure game, is key.

The siblings' relationship is central to the game, woven through the narrative with a flashback to their orphaned childhood, and contrasted against Nathan's doubts over his future and discomfort at settling down.

So, paragon of maturity, he runs off to track down the ultimate historical stash - $400 million worth of plunder, with a quest that takes him to the furthest reaches of the planet.

Multiplayer has always seemed a strange addition to Uncharted, even though it's been a fixture since the second game; a bit like hugging a friend at a train station and then realising you're walking to the same platform.

It packs in four modes, including ranked and unranked Team Deathmatch shootouts, king-of-the-hill style Plunder, and Command, where factions battle to take out the opposing team's captain.

Spend even a little time with it though, and you'll be glad it does, as it delivers enough pleasures to even make its plodding third act forgivable.

The full-color, backlit, widescreen, 3D-rendering console was released to capitalize on the dominant success of the PlayStation 2.

— we’ve picked out some of the best PSP games that we think are still worth your time and money.

Burnout: Legends takes the high velocity racing of Burnout 3: Takedown and adds several tracks and gameplay modes from the first two Burnout titles to create a deep, extremely enjoyable package for racing fans.

All told, the game includes 95 unlockable cars, 18 distinct maps, and nine unique race types (including the ever popular Crash, where you simply fly into intersections and try to rack up huge property damage bills).

Chronicles included both Rondo and its celebrated sequel, Castlevania: Symphony of Terror, in one incredible vampire-slaying package.

In Chronicles, you play as protagonists Richter Belmont and Alucard, and try to navigate perilous 2D, side-scrolling castles and dungeons in an effort to take down Dracula.
