Sales of Windows PCs fared better than Apple Macs during the third quarter this year.

Third-quarter PC shipments declined by 3.9 percent compared to the same quarter last year, but Mac shipments dropped by 13 percent.

PC shipments totaled 68 million units, according to IDC.

Many Mac laptops and desktops are due for an upgrade to Intel's Skylake and Kaby Lake processors.

IDC's numbers do not include detachable devices like the iPad Pro.

IDC analyst Jay Chou couldn't immediately say if Chromebook shipments outpaced Macs.

It should be said that the increase is the key.

When IDC sums up the first quarter so increasing the global pc sales grew by 0.6 per cent, compared with the corresponding period last year, but let's put this into perspective:

in 2015, sales decreased by 10.6 per cent.

this has made that pc shipments actually declined by 30 percent if you are starting from a peak, which was 2011, " says Jay Chou, who is chief analyst at IDC.

– However, users generally have rather shot up their pc purchases, they have not given up the pc for other devices.

we are Looking at the enterprise market, so goes this into a ersättningscykel that will drive growth in the near future.

Tencent’s online music platform QQ Music crashed on Monday night shortly after it exclusively released a single from Chinese singer Jay Chou, Sina Tech reported.

Why it matters: Tencent has become increasingly dominant in the Chinese music landscape.

Tencent Music Entertainment Group (TME) has exclusive rights to large chunks of music catalogs from the world’s three largest music labels—Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, and Sony Music Entertainment—and sublicenses them to rivals, according to Bloomberg.

Users often have no other option but to use the platform to listen to certain artists.

The State Administration of Market Regulation is currently investigating TME’s ties with the three music labels.

Details: Less than an hour into the single’s release, its page on QQ Music only displayed a message stating “an error has occurred, please tap the screen to retry.”

TFBoys (加油男孩 or The Fighting Boys), an immensely popular teenage Chinese boy band whose members broke the Guinness world record for “the most reposted Weibo”, was just hired by Yixia, the company behind Weibo’s live streaming provider Yizhibo and China’s top video blogging app Miaopai.

The news was confirmed (in Chinese) by CEO Han Kun on his Weibo account.

Starting around 2015, China has seen a new wave of celebrities joining tech companies.

A look at their titles, however, reveals that their “positions” are merely nominal: Jay Chou as Chief Travel Planning Officer of tour operator Tuniu (NASDAQ: TOUR) and Chief Surprise Officer of Vipshop (NYSE: VIPS); Fan Bingbing as Chief Experience Officer of live streaming app Huajiao; and most recently Lin Gengxin as Chief Update Officer of online video platform iQIYI to make sure the platform uploads anime episodes on time.

The trend of celebrity joining companies as executives comes as a response to circumvent the newly amended China Advertising Law (in Chinese) effective from September 2015.

The law, with the aim to strengthen consumer protection, has led to stricter rules over celebrity endorsement and how health related commercials can be done.

The jury is still out on whether e-sports will be included in the 2024 Olympics.

In the interim, some of the region’s top women’s teams are making history and growing fanbases.

The first women’s e-sports event in Hong Kong, the Shero Invitational, will form part of the Hong Kong Computer and Communications Festival at the Convention and Exhibition Centre this weekend.

League of Legends gamers will compete to make their mark in the male-dominated gaming scene.

While the competition will draw some well-known names, there are other impressive teams in the region worth watching:

The full-time professional video gaming team used to work with J Team owned by Mando-pop singer Jay Chou.

The fact that the personal computer market isn’t sinking as fast as it did just a few years ago is good news for the world’s biggest PC makers.

Worldwide shipments of PCs declined 3.3% year-over-year in the second quarter to 60.5 million, the International Data Corporation said on Wednesday.

Analyst firm Gartner published a similar PC shipment report Wednesday that showed PC shipments had dropped at a slightly higher rate—4.3%—year-over-year to 61 million.

IDC sounded optimistic that the PC market may stabilize soon.

Jay Chou, an IDC research manager for PCs, told Fortune that his firm has noticed a “steadying trend to where the declines aren’t as drastic” as they once were.

In the fourth quarter of 2015, for example, PC shipments dropped 10.6% to 71.9 million, far faster than today.

Alibaba’s star-studded 11.11 Countdown Gala was nothing shy of an elaborate New Year countdown with appearances from megastars such as Jay Chou and Mariah Carey.

But despite record-breaking sales, Alibaba’s Singles’ Day sales growth fell from 39% to 27%—the slowest in the shopping fiesta’s 10-year history.

“Today we witnessed the strength and rise of China’s consumption economy and consumers’ continued pursuit to upgrade their everyday lifestyles,” Daniel Zhang, CEO of Alibaba Group said.

“Looking ahead, Alibaba will continue to lead the evolution towards the future digital economy and lifestyle.”

Singles’ Day is hailed as the Olympics for Chinese merchants.

Cainiao Network alone processed more than 1 billion delivery orders on the shopping day, which, to put it in context, is equivalent to the volume of delivery orders processed in the UK over 4 months.

HP commanded the North American market in the first quarter of 2018 according to the latest report from International Data Corporation (IDC).

The statistics include desktops, laptops, and workstations, which combined saw 60.4 million units sold globally in the first quarter of 2018.

Gaming systems are also part of the equation as hardware prices continue to drop to better address budget-oriented wallets without sacrificing performance.

According to the report, an improved supply of “key components” brought prices down to help smaller vendors recover their share of their PC market.

“The component shortage that initially impacted portions of 2017 led some vendors to stock up inventory to avoid expected component price hikes, and that led to some concerns of excess stock that would be hard to digest in subsequent quarters,” said Jay Chou, research manager with IDC’s Personal Computing Device Tracker.

For the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, Africa), the report doesn’t state how many units actually shipped, but instead says the region’s PC market showed stable growth.

Alibaba’s ‘Double 12’ e-commerce event may seem like less of a deal compared to the massive shopping and specials spree that is Singles Day (November 11) in China.

But Taobao is upping the ante for its December event with delivery times as low as two hours in select cities, as well as sizable discounts, Tencent reports.

This year’s event kicks off on December 1 and lasts through December 12.

The high-speed delivery service will be available in eight cities: Shanghai, Chengdu, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Xi’an, Fuzhou, Xiamen, and Shenzhen.

From 12am-1am on December 12, shoppers can snag limited-time discounts of as high as 70% on certain goods.

In addition, Taobao will hold its first Double 12-themed variety show to spice things up this year.
