Whatever you’re looking for, our guide will show you how this feature works.

Professional athletes are paid to do the same things well, repeatedly.

Solely focusing on what we liked last month doesn’t predict 100 percent what we’ll be into today.

While we wholly accept that data surrounding your personal buying or leisure pursuits can be great predictors of future behavior, people do indeed evolve.

What if Coldplay and maroon boots feel a bit outdated, and you’re looking to move towards Alt-J and suede moccasins.

It’s highly “non-static,” kinetic if you will, which provides an ever-evolving set of challenges to the broader marketing/advertising sector.

They want their brands and offers to reach the very audiences that are most prone to purchase them.

Snap Map will help you keep track of what your friends on Snapchat are doing and where they are.

It is no secret that Snapchat has been hit hard with strong competition from Facebook-owned Instagram over the past year, but the social media company is not taking it lying down.

On Wednesday, it announced its newest feature addition — Snap Map.

The new location-based Snap Map is Snapchat’s way of trying to help users see what is going on around them with other users and events.

The feature also gives users a new way to follow their friends, with not only what they are snapping on their own, but what others are snapping at that location as well.

It is a move that Snapchat is hoping will strengthen the community and help make connecting with old and new friends on the service easier.

You can now set location-based reminders on Google Home.

Your phone will then remind you when you arrive at the location, assuming location services are turned on.

Those reminders can be pushed out to your Android and iOS devices.

Even though you can set location-based reminders on your phone, you could previously not do so on your Google Home device.

With the feature, you can say things like, “Hey Google, set a reminder to pick up more coffee at the grocery store.” Assuming your phone has location services turned on, Google Assistant will send you a reminder once you arrive at the location.

Try saying, “Hey Google, set a reminder to pick up more coffee at the grocery store” and your Google Assistant will remind you on your phone.

The company is using an approach known as geo-push to make highly targeted offers.

It consists of two components:

  • A location-based app that tracks users via GPS or cell tower signal; and
  • Geo-fences, virtual boundaries around Starbucks coffee shops. Crossing them triggers a specific action in the app, such as sending a promotional notification.

By combining GPS data and users’ purchase history, you can anticipate user desires and power-up your business.

Alongside news of Google Assistant’s forthcoming multilingual support and the addition of more languages this year, Google also announced this morning its smart assistant would soon be gaining two new features: Routines and location-based reminders.

Google has been promising Routines were in the works for some time.

The feature, which lets Google Assistant users string together multiple commands, was first announced back in October 2017.

With Routines, you can create personalized commands and responses – for example, saying “OK Google, I’m home,” could turn on the lights, adjust the thermostat, and play some music.

It’s a feature that rival Alexa announced in September 2017, and launched the following month.

Google is playing catch up here, but it’s doing it quickly.

While the actual materialized results are yet to be confronted and analyzed, the industry is riding on the newly marketed avenue of customer experience.

Location-based services will have a world of impact suddenly dropping on the heads of the smartphone users.

Hurdles on the way for location-based applications

Amidst all the stakes being placed on the rising trend of location-based mobile applications, there lies a considerable risk still to be mitigated effectively.

For instance, there is an introvert individual who likes to keep it to himself and doesn’t allow the location generally to be switched on.

However, for using travel or a short commute app, he switches on the location and in the meantime receive notifications from the respective application which might not attract him and increase the risk of bouncing off.

Pokémon Go has provoked legions of gamers all over the world to get off their butts and explore their surroundings.

The results haven t always been pretty, but there s something exciting about this newfound popularity for location-based games, a genre which has been technically possible for several years, but languished in relative obscurity until now.

The widespread adoption of mobile devices with GPS and powerful processors has enabled developers to explore new types of gameplay that blend the digital and analog worlds.

Pokémon Go didn t come out of a vacuum.

Developer Niantic founded in 2010 as a Google subsidy released Ingress in 2012, which was — until now — the biggest location-based mobile game.

Triangulating three portals gives control over the bounded area to that faction, earning them points for as long as the area is held.

Amazon on Thursday introduced location-based Routines, what it calls the commands you set up with its digital assistant Alexa to trigger connected devices.

The announcement came alongside the unveiling of Echo Auto, a cassette-tape-sized device you put in your car so Amazon's voice-controlled digital helper can follow along with you wherever you drive.

They were two of a landslide of announcements from an Amazon event in Seattle, which the company said would include the largest number of devices and features the company has ever launched at one time.

With location-based Routines, you can set up connected lights to turn on as soon as you arrive home, for example.

After Amazon first launched the original Echo in 2014, the device became a hit for the company and helped usher in a new era of voice computing.

Now Apple, Google, Samsung and Microsoft are racing to build up their own voice assistants and integrate them into more devices to catch Amazon.

Six years ago, when Wiley asked me to write a Dummies book on location-based marketing, I was equal parts thrilled and terrified.

For another, we were in the early days of location-based applications, and while new players were popping up every day, there really wasn t any critical mass.

When it launched in 2007, it was a novel concept; it gave those of us starting to explore social media the ability to check in and find one another at events or in big cities when we were traveling.

On the heels of Brightkite came Gowalla, and then Foursquare.

While my co-author, Mike Schneider, and I were exploring all the different services, tools and brands that were experimenting with location-based services, we suspected that the active check-in — the need to turn on one s smartphone, open an app, search for a location, and then decide whether or not to share that location across other social networks — would become a barrier to mass adoption of location-based services.

As Schneider and I encouraged brands testing location-based apps to provide the right incentives for customers in exchange for their information and sharing, very few actually put real skin in the game.

The search giant updated its ads for Google Maps to help businesses drive traffic in a smartphone-dominated world.

The changes to the ad experience in Google Maps will be subtle, with advertisers showing up as promoted pins on the map.

Walgreens, for example, can have its logo show up while you're exploring an area or driving in navigation mode.

Businesses who pay for ads will also get better placement within local search results.

Google text ads will now allow two 30-character headlines, a longer 80-character description and a customizable URL path.

Early tests performed by Google showed the new ads increased clickthrough rates of ads by up to 20%, so it seems the company and businesses should benefit from this new approach.
