This afternoon Nintendo let it be known that their game Mario Kart 8 had broken sales records for the series, coming up first in several categories.

This game broke the previous record for first-day sales in the history of the franchise, previously held by Mario Kart Wii for the original Nintendo Wii.

Mario Kart Wii sold 433,900 units on launch day in 2008, while Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for Nintendo Switch sold a cool 459,000 units on its own first day of sales.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is essentially a re-release of Mario Kart 8, with a few modifications.

The original Mario Kart 8 was released for Wii U, while Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was released for the brand new Nintendo Switch console.

This game has been given a large amount of perfect scores – more 10 out of 10 scores, says Nintendo, than any other game in the Mario Kart series.

"Mario Kart" has been a big deal for over 25 years, and now — finally— it's coming to smartphones.

The game is named "Mario Kart Tour," and it's expected to arrive at some point this summer.

Here's everything we know about Nintendo's first major "Mario Kart" game for smartphones:

When Nintendo announced the delay earlier this year, it pointed to the game not living up to its quality standards; Nintendo also cited an interest in expanding the game's post-launch strategy for the delay.

"Mario Kart Tour" is a spinoff game, like "Super Mario Run" and "Mario Kart Arcade GP."

You can tell from the naming convention that "Mario Kart Tour" is its own thing, separate from the main thread of "Mario Kart" games that have come out on Nintendo consoles exclusively.

Yeah, Animal Crossing on mobile is good, but have you ever tried mobile Mario Kart?

No, you haven't, because there is no Mario Kart on iOS or Android.

That will change though, as Nintendo Wednesday made a big announcement via Twitter: Mario Kart is coming to mobile platforms in the form of Mario Kart Tour.

Not much information on the game was announced, though Nintendo did note that it'd hit your phones and tablets by the end of March 2019.

Mario Kart has always been popular, but it's enjoyed something of a resurgence with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, a game that hit Nintendo's Switch console last April and has since sold over 7.33 million units.

That's in addition to the 8 million copies that Mario Kart 8 sold on the Wii U.

Back in September, Mario Kart Tour launched for iOS and Android without a component many consider critical to the Mario Kart experience: multiplayer.

Racing against other humans is one of the main draws of the Mario Kart franchise as a whole, so it was definitely strange to see Mario Kart Tour launch without it.

Nintendo will be fixing that particular oversight in December, launching a real-time multiplayer beta at some point during the month.

Unfortunately, if you want to participate in the beta, you’ll need to shell out some cash.

Nintendo’s tweet also confirmed that the beta will be available only to those who subscribe to Mario Kart Tour’s Gold Pass.

The Gold Pass launched alongside Mario Kart Tour and runs $4.99 per month.

p Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Review

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is sublime.

If you've got a Switch, and the idea of a frenetic arcade racer starring a heap of Nintendo characters sounds appealing, then go and order the game right now.

Reviewing re-releases is always interesting, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is one of these: a second chance for Mario Kart 8, which had the poor fortune of being released just as interest in Nintendo's underperforming Wii U had started to wane.

Meanwhile, interest in the Nintendo Switch is at a high, and Nintendo has claimed it's its fastest-selling console ever, with 2.7m consoles shifted in the first month.

With Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the game has a rare second chance to make a first impression, and my first impression is that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the best kart racer I've ever played and an unlikely entry into the pantheon of arcade racers.

After over a year of waiting, Mario Kart Tour is finally available in closed beta form in the U.S. and Japan.

To that end, Mario Kart Tour features 30 characters, 20 karts, and 10 gliders.

Once you pick your racer and track, you eventually encounter item blocks that have been a Mario Kart staple since the first game for the SNES.

So far, I’ve encountered banana peels, coins, all three shell colors, bob-ombs, lightning, and the super horn.

As in previous Mario Kart games, there are many cups to complete in Mario Kart Tour.

The closed beta includes 16 cups, with each cup including four races.

Nintendo has announced the latest of its IPs to make the leap to smartphones, and it’s a big one: Mario Kart.

An app called Mario Kart Tour is set to be released in the next financial year, meaning anywhere between April 2018 and March 2019.

No details about Mario Kart Tour have been made available other than its existence, but the Mario Kart franchise is one of Nintendo’s biggest.

Yesterday the company announced that 14.86 million Switch consoles have been sold, and about half as many copies of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe — a straight port of a game that managed to sell more than eight million copies even on the Wii U.

Overnight, Nintendo finally gave Mario Kart Tour a release date for iOS and Android.

Mario Kart Tour is the latest mobile game from the big N, and it taps into one of Nintendo’s most popular franchises.

To go along with that release date announcement, Nintendo also released a pair of trailers for Mario Kart Tour, giving those of us who haven’t had a chance to play the beta a look at how the game will play.

It probably won’t shock you to learn that Mario Kart Tour looks a lot like a typical Mario Kart game, particularly Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which has been a perennial best-seller for the Nintendo Switch.

Much of the first trailer is focused primarily on individual racers, showing us some of the characters who will be playable in the game along with some of the tracks we’ll be racing on.

We’re also offered a glimpse at what appears to be the very first Rainbow Road from Super Mario Kart on the SNES, so it seems that track will be returning for this mobile entry.

p In a press release sent out on Monday morning, Nintendo revealed that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe became the fastest-selling game in the history of the Mario Kart franchise over the weekend.

Having received rave reviews from critics, the Switch game ended up selling over 459,000 copies on launch day alone.

“The previous record holder for the highest first-day sales in the franchise was Mario Kart Wii, with U.S. sales of approximately 433,900 when it launched in 2008,” says Nintendo.

The company has determined that the attach rate for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is at around 45% in the United States, which means that nearly half of all US Switch owners bought Mario Kart 8 Deluxe this weekend.

There are a few ways to look at this press release.

On one hand, this is a great sign for the Switch, especially when taking into consideration the fact that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe isn’t a new game.

Stock up on your banana peels, Mario fans.Nintendo today revealed details on the new multiplayer modes coming to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which releases for the Switch on April 28.

Although a port, this will be one of the first major games Nintendo releases for its new console following the hybrid home/portable system’s launch on March 3.

Mario Kart Tour is finally getting widescreen support nearly a year after its initial launch. The option to flip your phone into landscape mode was a key feature missing when the Mario Kart series’ mobile iteration came out last year.

Released in September 2019, Mario Kart Tour brought the popular go-kart racing series to smartphones. Unlike previous installments, the game’s controls are simplified — you do not need to press any button to accelerate your character, you can just tap on your screen to use items, and you can slide your finger left or right or tilt your phone to steer.

Following its release, Mario Kart Tour became the most downloaded free game on iPhones in 2019. At launch, the game felt underwhelming in part due to...

If you wanted to play Mario Kart in the past, you had to own a Nintendo system like the Switch, 3DS, or Wii U.

Those days will soon be over, however, as the mobile Mario Kart Tour is officially releasing on September 25.

A version of the series built exclusively for mobile devices, Mario Kart Tour is played with your phone held vertically.

Despite this change, it’s still the same Mario Kart gameplay you know with drifting, items to throw, gliders, and plenty of hazards to keep you guessing.

There are classic Mario Kart courses included, as well as some inspired by real-world locations you might happen to be visiting as you play.

Some of the real-life-inspired courses will only be available for a limited window, and characters will get variants based on them, as well.
