Apple is finally bringing its iTunes app to Microsoft’s Windows 10 app store today.

Microsoft first revealed nearly a year ago that iTunes would be coming to the Microsoft Store by the end of 2017, but that date came and went.

Apple’s iTunes app is the same desktop version available online, but it will be updated and available through the Microsoft Store.

iTunes is one of the most searched for apps that wasn’t available in the Microsoft Store, and the addition will be a boost to Microsoft’s Windows 10 S Mode efforts.

Windows 10 in S Mode only supports apps available in the Microsoft Store, and iTunes will provide Windows 10 users with a way to access Apple Music.

iTunes is available immediately from the Microsoft Store.

The new Microsoft Store on Windows 11.

Microsoft’s dysfunctional app store for Windows, the Microsoft Store, is finally improving under Windows 11. While there’s a UI overhaul and some speed improvements, the key change is allowing more apps into the store. In just the past week alone, some popular apps have started to appear in the Microsoft Store on Windows 11, making it more useful than before.

OBS Studio, Zoom, Canva, WinZip, and Adobe Acrobat Reader have all made their way to the Microsoft Store in the past week, alongside Microsoft Edge browser extensions. These early additions, during a beta period for Windows 11, are a promising start.

The Microsoft Store is changing on Windows 11, and eventually Windows 10, to include any traditional desktop apps. Microsoft...

If you recently purchased an ebook from the Microsoft Store on Windows 10, you’ll soon be due for a refund.

Microsoft has announced that it will be shutting down the ebooks category on its app store, with the goal of eventually removing all existing Microsoft Store ebooks from the digital libraries of consumers come July.

According to Microsoft, refunds for previously purchased ebooks will begin processing in July 2019 to any original payment methods.

If an original payment method is no longer valid, credit will instead be applied to a Microsoft Account for use toward games or apps in the Microsoft Store.

For individuals who may have marked-up or annotated books, Microsoft will apply an additional $25 credit whenever refunds are processed.

Though Microsoft is not providing a concrete reason for its decision, ZDNet reports that the company is “streamlining the strategy focus” of the Microsoft Store.

Microsoft has confirmed that it pulled a Chrome-based app uploaded by Google from the Microsoft Store because it didn’t comply with store policy.

Google published its “installer” app, a tool that downloads and installs the desktop version of Chrome on Windows 10, on the Microsoft Store on Monday, December 18.

“We have removed the Google Chrome Installer App from Microsoft Store, as it violates our Microsoft Store policies,” a Microsoft spokesperson said.

Load up Microsoft’s built-in Edge browser on Windows 10, navigate to Google’s home page, and you’ll see a large box stating: “Switch to Chrome, a smarter browser.” And if you search for the Chrome browser using Bing, the results are aimed at showing how Edge is better than Chrome.

Even Windows 10 itself will suggest using Edge over Chrome in the Notifications area.

Google’s now-deleted “installer” app wasn’t published out of spite.

Google published a Chrome app in the Windows Store earlier today, which just directed users to a download link to install the browser.

Microsoft isn’t impressed with Google’s obvious snub of the Windows Store, and it’s taking action.

“We have removed the Google Chrome Installer App from Microsoft Store, as it violates our Microsoft Store policies,” says a Microsoft spokesperson in a statement to The Verge.

Citing the need to ensure apps “provide unique and distinct value,” Microsoft says “we welcome Google to build a Microsoft Store browser app compliant with our Microsoft Store policies.” That’s an invitation that Google is unlikely to accept.

There are many reasons Google won’t likely bring Chrome to the Windows Store, but the primary reason is probably related to Microsoft’s Windows 10 S restrictions.

Windows Store apps that browse the web must use HTML and JavaScript engines provided by Windows 10, and Google’s Chrome browser uses its own Blink rendering engine.

It appears someone pulled the trigger a bit early at the Microsoft store, inadvertently revealing what was likely a planned E3 announcement about pre-order bonuses for the Xbox version of Red Dead Redemption 2.

An eagle-eyed forum poster at ResetEra snapped an image of the offer, and the web site Rockstar Intel also captured a screenshot from the British Microsoft Store site.

The listing has since been removed, but, as they say, that horse has already left the barn.

Pre-orders for the Xbox version will get:

While you’re waiting for the game to release in October, you’ll also get a bunch of money to spend wreaking havoc in San Andreas: “After pre-ordering your copy of Red Dead Redemption 2 through the Microsoft Store on Xbox, this GTA $500,000 bonus can be downloaded by searching for ‘$500,000 for Grand Theft Auto Online’ on the Microsoft Store.”

Super-early adopters who order by July 31 will also score an exclusive story mode Treasure Map.

Microsoft introduced game gifting on the Xbox One last October, and now the company is expanding the program to include PCs.

An update to the Microsoft Store will now allow users to send PC games and PC downloadable game content (e.g.

map packs, skins) as gifts.

Users can go into the Microsoft Store picking out digital gifts as if buying the games for themselves and use the new ‘Buy as Gift’ option at checkout.

From there, you can enter the email address of the gift recipient, who will receive the present as a Microsoft Store code.

Along with adding PC games to the game gifting program, all Xbox One games are also now eligible.
