This will help them plan their public trips, plan their trips ahead of time, get real-time updates and track their online public transport regime.

And save a lot of time and energy, because you no longer have to queue with your chip card or wait for buses, trams, ferries or subways, dockless scooters or bicycles.

Public transport systems bring many benefits to communities, communities and local economies, but often they don't get the attention they need.

While much media attention has focused on high-profile stories such as autonomous vehicles and the launch of Tesla's newest electric car model, public transit and fixed-route transit continue to be far more efficient and useful systems for getting people from one place to another.

While Waze is better known for its flagship GPS app with real-time data provided by a global community of drivers, the company launched a dedicated carpool service in its native Israel way back in 2015 and in the intervening years has expanded it to Brazil, Mexico, and finally the U.S., where it launched last October.

Moovit, which claims around 500 million users globally, is best known for its consumer-facing app that combines transport options to show travelers the easiest way to get around a city.

Through this app, Moovit users will now be able to view Waze Carpool options alongside all the other public transport and micromobility options.

It’s worth noting that Moovit already integrates with ride-hailing services, including Uber, Lyft, and Gett, as well as myriad other transport options — from dockless bikes to scooters.

Moovit does operate its own carpool service, which integrates with the main Moovit transit app, but this is only available in Israel.

Both Waze and Moovit were founded out of Israel, and they both lean on transport data crowdsourced from their respective commuter communities.

Public transportation app Moovit has announced a new pilot program that integrates the Waze Carpool service with its own mobile app.

Moovit is designed to generate routes involving public transportation options; Waze, of course, is a navigation app that helps drivers get where they’re going with alerts about related things like law enforcement checkpoints and accidents.

Moovit is available as both a website and a mobile app; it works the same as other navigation services, though the route options it generates for traveling from one point to another utilize only public transportation, not roads.

Sometimes a bus or train may not be the ideal way to get somewhere — they are prone to delays and other issues, for example.

That’s where carpool rides would come in.

With the new pilot program, Moovit will also show available Waze Carpool ride options (when applicable) to riders as part of the suggested routes.

Moovit announced today that it has raised $50 million in venture capital as the company seeks to leverage its crowdsourced transportation data into a service for local governments.

The company intends to use the money to expand its global sales team as well as for additional product development.

The round was led by Intel Capital, and Moovit noted that Amnon Shashua, a senior vice president of Intel and the CEO of Mobileye, will join Moovit’s board of directors as an observer.

Mobileye is a computer vision and machine learning company that was acquired last year by Intel to boost its offering for autonomous vehicles.

Like Moovit, Mobileye is based in Israel.

“We are especially thrilled about our plans to collaborate with Mobileye,” said Moovit cofounder and CEO Nir Erez, in a statement.

Election Day is less than two weeks away.

On November 8, the American citizenry will have the opportunity to choose its next leader, and one app wants to make sure that as many people as possible take advantage of that opportunity.

Public transportation app Moovit has partnered with politically minded nonprofit Rock the Vote to drive voter turnout — quite literally.

Via this latest collaboration, Moovit users will be notified of their state s voter registration deadline and have access to easy-to-navigate trip planning to their local polling places on Election Day.

In honor of the historic election that is just 13 days away, Moovit will ensure that its users will be able to quickly find the best route to his or her polling place, no matter if this route involves public transit, bikesharing services, or Uber.

In the Directions tab of the Moovit app, in which users can normally find one-tap directions to their favorite locations, they ll also be able to look into suggested routes to assigned polling stations.

Mobility data startup Moovit today announced that it is integrating its people-driven transportation platform into Microsoft’s Azure Maps.

Tel Aviv-based Moovit has built a mapping tool for public transportation.

The company uses crowdsourced data from millions of users to map routes for buses and metros around the world.

It also leverages that data via a service it provides to urban planners called Smart Transit Suite.

The partnership with Microsoft will allow developers who use Azure Maps to hook into Moovit’s transit data.

“Moovit’s top quality transit data and world-leading multi-modality services perfectly fit into the Microsoft Azure Maps portfolio of offerings for app developers,” said Moovit cofounder and CEO Nir Erez in a statement.

A triumvirate of tech companies today announced what they’re touting as the “world’s first truly comprehensive multi-modal trip planner.”

Taking to the stage at the Move mobility conference in London, executives from Microsoft, TomTom, and Moovit outlined how they’re pooling their various transport, data, and cloud processing smarts so developers can integrate more extensive transport options into their own applications.

“Over the last few years, cities have experienced rising urban sprawl, where residents of metropolitan areas have been pushed out toward suburban areas, often beyond the limits of public transit lines,” noted Azure Maps head Chris Pendleton.

“With most jobs still residing in densely populated cities, the typical commute is becoming multi-modal.”

Moovit, for the uninitiated, constitutes two core elements: a consumer-facing app that gives travelers the easiest way to get around a city and a mobility-as-a-service (MaaS) platform that serves municipalities with data and analytics to help improve city transport infrastructure.

A few months back, Moovit and Microsoft announced a partnership that would allow developers who use Azure Maps to hook into Moovit’s transit data.
