One of the common challenges the beginners face while learning Chinese is the overwhelming amount of info they need to remember.

Chinese teachers and learning resources tend to teach too much content that is often not immediately useful for learners. So don’t try to learn everything at once!

The essential aspects your need to memorize are verbs, adjectives, nouns, and grammar:Verbs and adjectives are quite easy to grasp as there are not so many of them.

About 300 words in total, maybe 1000 if you really want to learn all of them.Grammar is also quite simple.

There are no tenses, no plurals, no genders, and no conjugations. The problem is the nouns.

Learning programs usually contain many nouns we never use. It's recommended to focus your memorizing efforts on verbs, adjectives, grammar, and 2 or 3 hundreds of nouns in the first few months.

Introduction The agreement between the subject of a sentence and the verb form of the sentence is a must condition for the sentence to be grammatically correct. Well, if you have this doubt then this rule will help you solve it. When idioms like these are used in a sentence then the verb is singular always, as idioms mostly represent a singular subject. Example: Not only was it raining the whole day at the wedding but also the band was late. Rule 5 A number of + Plural Noun + Plural Verb + their (possessive adjective) The number of + Plural Noun + Singular Verb + his (possessive adjective) The percentage of can take both Uncountable nouns and plural nouns and take Singular verb. Example: Wrong: He says the most of the books he read is of sci-fi.

For more than a decade, neuroscientists have known that stress impairs memory performance—an effect likely due to the influence of stress-related hormones.

A recent article in Science shows that a specific technique—taking practice recall tests—can help people overcome the memory problems associated with stress.

For this work, 120 participants were asked to study lists of nouns one at a time.

The retrieval practice participants did not receive feedback on their performance—they didn t know if they were doing a good job of recalling the nouns or not.

One day after this memory related task, half of the study practice participants and half of the retrieval practice participants were subjected to a high-stress situation known as the Tier Social Stress Test, a procedure that placed them in a situation in which they will be harshly judged.

The rest completed a non-stressful task of equal duration.

Consider a news headline posted on Twitter: Rupee soars & profit of Infosys dips.

Ask a machine to ‘read’ the news and ‘tell’ us what the news is all about.

What appears to be a simple matter of reading for a human may get quite difficult for a machine unless it is ‘trained’ properly. The headline includes two nouns (‘rupee’ and ‘Infosys’) and two verbs (‘soars’ and ‘dips’).

If the machine reads the verbs in the wrong places with respect to the nouns, the meaning of the headline completely changes.

Thus, the algorithm should be developed in such way that a machine ‘reads’ and ‘understands’ the story in the same way a human does.

This would involve several things that include associating every verb and adjective with the correct noun.Welcome to the field of news analytics, tools that convert a text into sentiment score.

Researchers in Japan suggest there's a surprising neurological reason why people avert their gaze occasionally during conversation.

Reporting in the journal Cognition, they write that eye contact actually "disrupts resources available to cognitive control processes during verb generation."

In other words, when you need to come up with certain words under certain circumstances, maintaining eye contact depletes the very brain resources you need to find the word.

To test this, the researchers asked 26 participants to make eye contact with a computer-generated face while playing a word association game, reports Business Insider.

Looking at the face didn't seem to interfere with their ability to come up with verbs easily associated to nouns—like the word "scissors" prompting the person to think of "cut."

But when nouns were more difficult—for example, if they had too many associations or were a little obscure—it took participants longer to think of a verb while maintaining that eye contact.

Walk into a room, see a chair, and your brain will tell you that you can sit in it, tip it over or lift it up, but you wouldn't even consider drinking it, promoting it or unlocking it.

As humans, explains Brigham Young University computer science professor David Wingate, we know intuitively that certain verbs pair naturally with certain nouns, and we also know that most verbs don't make sense when paired with random nouns.

"You can dethrone a king or worship him or obey him, but you cannot unlock him or calendar him or harvest him."

That intuition, for the most part, doesn't exist with computer artificial intelligence agents, who are good at identifying objects but less so in knowing what to do with them.

So Wingate and three student researchers, including lead author Nancy Fulda, developed a method for teaching agents about affordances -- the set of actions that can be done with an object.

The team's ambitious end goal is to help build androids that can walk around the world and interact with it intelligently.

What they re saying is they didn t teach the neural network anything about the structure of language, explains Chris Nicholson, founder of deep learning startup Skymind, says of Facebook s work, which was previously discussed in a handful of public research papers.

According to Mehanna, DeepText already works with 20 different languages.

But this is certainly an area where he and many others believe research will go.
