The Sony PlayStation Now streaming service was touted as a Netflix of gaming, but since its inception it has existed more as a backwards compatibility method for PS3 titles.

That changes today with Sony is finally adding PS4 games into the monthly all-you-can-play subscription service.

In Europe, 51 titles from the current-gen console have been added, while US gamers get 24 PS4 titles to enjoy among the library that now features over 400 games (500 in the US) in total.

Among those PS4 titles on board in both territories are WWE 2K16, Saints Row IV, God of War 3 Remastered, Killzone Shadowfall, F1 2015 and Ultra Street Fighter IV.

The full list is detailed by Sony in this blog post (US).

Sony promises more PS4 titles this year and next and also announced it is offering a full year’s subscription for $99.99 until September 22 this year.

The battle for console exclusives makes for some great games unique to the platforms they've been created for, but it can be a pain to see a rival device get a great title not available to your machine of choice.

So PC gamers get a nice little surprise today, thanks to a PlayStation Now update.

Sony's streaming service, which offers more than 650 PS3 and PS4 titles, has today received a library update that sees the revered PS4 classic, Bloodborne, available to PlayStation Now subscribers.

As a PS4 exclusive, Bloodborne has previously only been available to those that bought it for Sony's PS4 console.

And with there being little hope of it ever reaching another platform, the PlayStation Now streaming service is likely the only way gamers that exclusively play on PC will ever get to experience it.

And experience it they should: Bloodborne is one of the finest games of the generation, if not all time.

Sony's PlayStation Now is the company's £12.99 per month subscription service which allows you to play older PS3 games on a PC or PS4.

As of today that's changed, because PS Now will feature 50 PS4 games, with more coming in the future.

Among the first release of games are Killzone Shadow Falls, Tropico 5 and Tearaway Unfolded.

PS3 games on the service include titles like The Last of Us and Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception as well as Lego Harry Potter.

Sony also says that PS Now is gaining in popularity, with hours of play up 44% over last year.

The service now has more than 400 games and has 79 publishers onboard offering games with big names like Take-Two, Rockstar, WB Games and Sega all offering fun-for-fee play.

As promised this spring, you can now stream full PlayStation 4 games via Sony's PlayStation Now service, whether you have an actual PS4 console or a Windows PC.

PlayStation Now is best known for pumping last-gen PS3 games to your devices, but now the service can handle the glossy graphics and complex computations of modern-day games, flinging them over an Internet connection to your TV or computer monitor.

Why bother with PlayStation Now if you already own a PS4?

Value, potentially: with reasonably-priced monthly and annual all-you-can-play subscriptions, you can tap into the entire library of PS4 and PS3 games, with more than 400 total titles available right now in the UK (and 500+ in the United States).

That's a lot of gaming.

That said, the PS4 end of the equation is pretty slim for now: there are 51 PS4 games available on PlayStation Now in the UK, and even fewer in the States, plus the initial lineup lacks all of the heavy hitters we'd hoped for back in March.

You may soon be able to download PlayStation Now games from the cloud.

Sony's on-demand streaming games library will allow gamers to play offline starting this September, according to Kotaku.

That means you'll be able to download your favorite games onto your PS4 and play them even if you aren't connected to the internet.

Players can also access games on the same PS4 even if their using different accounts, according to Kotaku.

You'll be able to play them as long as you have an active PS Now subscription, the site reported.

The functionality will be limited to the PS4 for the time being, the report said.

Well that didn't take long at all: a week after revealing that PlayStation Now would be coming to PC and launching the service in the UK, Sony has made it available in the US.

Using PlayStation Now, gamers can stream more than 400 PlayStation 3 titles to their PC, giving them a chance to revisit old favorites from the previous generation or catching up on what they may have missed.

However, you can expect to pay a pretty penny for a subscription, as they start at $20 per month.

Sony also offers a three-month subscription for $44.99, and in celebration of the launch of PlayStation Now on PC, it's offering a year of access for $100 for a limited time.

For those on the fence, you'll also have the option of trying it out for seven days before you make the commitment to sign up, and it should be noted that the $100 subscription seems to be available for all subscribers, not just those playing on PC.

Here are the recommended PC specifications for PlayStation Now:

Sony has announced that it is pulling support for its PlayStation Now cloud-powered game streaming service from all previous-generation devices, leaving it a PlayStation 4 and Windows PC exclusive.

Announced back in 2014, PlayStation Now was born of Sony's acquisition of game streaming pioneer Gaikai and used the company's technology to two ends: to boost Sony's recurring revenue stream by offering access to games on a rental or subscription model and later to bring limited backwards compatibility to the company's PlayStation 4 platform.

Later that same year, the company brought the PlayStation TV to the UK, allowing users without consoles to access PlayStation Now, followed by the inclusion of support in the company's Bravia TVs and selected Samsung TVs, and in August last year added a Windows client with the promise of macOS support to follow.

Now, though, the company is taking PlayStation Now in a different direction, and it's bad news for anyone who bought a PlayStation TV.

In August this year, Sony is to discontinue support for PlayStation Now on all devices aside from the PlayStation 4 and Windows PCs: That means no more PlayStation Now access on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation TV, Bravia TVs, Sony-branded Blu-ray players, and supported Samsung TVs.

Oddly, those who have purchased a 2016-era Bravia with PlayStation Now support will get even less time to enjoy the feature: While earlier models will drop support in August, 2016 models will lose the functionality in April.

Microsoft is rounding out the year by adding a bunch of games to Xbox Game Pass, a service that allows you on demand access to a library of titles.

Though it’s similar to PlayStation Now, Xbox Game Pass is still in its infancy as a service, so what’s the benefit of signing up for Microsoft’s service when Sony’s own is available on PC and therefore doesn’t require a PlayStation 4?

There were already a few reasons why you might give Xbox Game Pass a shot over PlayStation Now, and Microsoft just turned it into an even more tempting proposition.

Your first month is $1 (assuming you sign up soon)

From now until January 4, you can join Xbox Game Pass for $1.

That will take care of your first month of service, and then after that, your subscription will continue at $9.99 per month.

Google could soon move ahead with plans to launch a cloud-based game-streaming service.

According to Gizmodo, "Yeti" will use faster Internet in 2018 to carry the service which would run similar to PlayStation Now.

PlayStation and Windows PC users have been able to access PlayStation Now since 2015.

PlayStation Now and Google's Yeti work on the same principle as Netflix.

Instead of buying physical copies or downloading full titles, streaming allows gamers to play over the Internet.

It also saves consumers from expensive one-off purchases and operates on a monthly subscription cost.
