If you have no idea what that s all about, it s okay—the end result is a gorgeous, custom Linux desktop that we can all admire.

Dobbie03 discovered that sidboX is great.

It s feature-rich, lightweight, and of course, customizable.

If you re interested in Openbox and are a Linux user, you might want to give it a try.

Here s what you ll need to make this look your own:

Instagram got another new feature this week (Galleries), the latest artifact of the app’s years-long expansion.

Though it started as a very simple, iOS-only photo-sharing app some six years ago, Instagram has grown to become a diverse, feature-rich social giant.

So did market pressure from Snapchat.

There currently aren’t many types of content you can’t share on Instagram.

On this week’s show, the hosts dissect Insta’s latest moves, look at how people are using it today, and try to figure out where else the little app can go.

Max Chafkin’s story in Bloomberg Businessweek about becoming an Instagram influencer.

Google announced its new messaging app Allo at its I/O developers conference today, and it looks pretty cool.

Allo even has an option for users to send their messages using end-to-end encryption, a security feature that has become increasingly popular and is the default in other chat apps like WhatsApp and Viber.

In order for Google to add dinners with friends to your calendar or suggest replies, it needs to be able to read your messages — which it can t do if your chats are end-to-end encrypted.

Most consumers will likely choose the latter, leaving security by the wayside, and civil liberties advocates are already voicing displeasure about it.

If encryption isn t a default, suspects may forget to turn it on and accidentally leave their messages exposed to law enforcement.

But those who choose to turn on Allo s encryption, dubbed incognito mode, will be getting a highly regarded security protocol: Google partnered with Open Whisper Systems to use the company s Signal Protocol.

Google has quietly announced on Google that they are removing a Google Search Console feature that is almost nine years old — the ability to remove sitelinks from displaying in Google search.

The feature was first introduced back in October 18, 2007, and today has been shut off.

It let webmasters tell Google that they don t want a specific URL to show up in the featured sitelinks section in the Google search results.

Sitelinks are the sublinks found under a search result snippet in Google.

Here is what sitelinks look like:

Google said they are removing the feature to simplify things.

In the age of smartphones, the feature-rich healthcare mobile apps can serve many purposes and facilitate patients to connect with the physicians thanks to technological advancements. The blog talks about top technology trends that will influence the mHealth apps development domain in 2018.

‘Health is in your hands’- the quote appears to be true in the mobile-driven age. Almost all smartphones would have at least one health and fitness app as people become more health-conscious these days. The concept of mobile health or mHealth gains ground so swiftly that the Grand View Research has predicted that size of mHealth app market is expected to surpass the value of 111 billion dollars till 2025.

Today, among all available healthcare mobile apps on the app stores, around two-thirds are dedicated to general health and fitness, whereas one-third apps are focusing on specific health conditions and medications. However, with increasing number of...

At this point, it’s established that when you sign up for a service, you should always expect that at some point it will be breached.

But that doesn’t mean you should give up on practicing basic security hygiene, because let’s face it: reused and shared passwords are still one of the major ways top ways cybercriminals take over online accounts.

Other times, it’s the easy-to-guess passwords (“123456,” anyone?).

So it’s easy to see why Google is making it dead simple to check if your passwords have been compromised in a data breach.

It’s now baking its Password Checkup Chrome extension, which it launched earlier this year, right into Google account controls.

And it can be accessed at passwords.google.com.

Millions have downloaded and continue to use Picasa, Google s free and feature-rich photo management software that works on both Macs and PCs.

But the app has seen almost no love from Google in recent years — in fact, the last major update happened more than five years ago, in 2011, and that update was the last one Picasa users will ever see.

You may also find that Picasa functions which require web connectivity, like the Order Prints or Publish to Blogger features, may fail to work at some point.

Virtually all of the blood, sweat, and tears you ve invested into tasks such as photo editing and captioning are ignored in the upload process.

Because Picasa stores all of that information within in its own database, it isn t embedded in your physical photo files.

Although Google Photos offers a handful of Instagram-esque filters and a number of editing tools to choose from — including those for cropping, rotating, and making contrast adjustments, among others— it s a paltry selection compared to what Picasa provides.

Google has just removed another feature from the Google Search Console: the content keywords report, one of the earliest features found in the Google Search Console when it was first built.

Google said when the tool first launched, this report was the only way to see what Googlebot found when it crawled a website.

Now, you have features like Search Analytics and Fetch, and others.

Google also said users were often confused about the keywords listed in content keywords.

So Google decided to remove the feature for those reasons.

This is not a surprising move; we heard Google was looking to remove it back in May.

Spotify is testing a new feature for speakers with support for Spotify Connect that will allow users to select a device as their Favorite Device.

A notification will pop up when your phone is physically nearby so you can swap what you’re listening to on your phone to that speaker.

The feature, which is still in testing, was spotted by Thurrott with impressions of how it works.

It’s a surprisingly simple setup: once a Favorite Device is selected and your phone is nearby, a notification will ask if you’d like to switch playback from your phone to the speaker, which can be done from the notification drop-down menu.

It’s an easier process than opening the app and changing playback manually, which is likely the point.

It seems like only one device can be set as the Favorite Device for the automatic switching behavior, so if you’ve got more than one Spotify Connect speaker around, be prepared to choose your favorite.

, but now the feature is rolling out to users across the rest of the world.

The initial launch came as part of a series of product launches specific to Brazil, and Google, at the time, teased that an international expansion was just days away.

It ended up taking almost a week, but now Duo users outside of Brazil have the option of audio calls, according to a tweet from Amit Fulay, the exec in charge of Duo.

On a related expansion note, Google has also partnered with Truecaller to integrate Duo calling into the company’s smart calling app.

That partnership is effective in India, where Truecaller claims to have 150 million registered users.

Google launched Duo last year as an emerging market-friendly take on services like Apple’s FaceTime-iMessage and WhatsApp, which has gotten audio and video calling in recent years.

For those who don t know, the Now on Tap feature, which shipped with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, is activated by holding down a device s home button.

It scans the contents of a screen for key words and shows related details, apps, and actions, all without having to leave the application you re currently using.

One of the reasons it hasn t been a huge hit is because it can be quite imprecise.

"If you use Now on Tap in an app, email, chat, or news article with a lot of text," wrote Google s product manager, Aneto Okonkwo, in a blog post.

Sometimes the results aren t as precise as you d like.

Or, as El Reg would put it: your browsers and Web servers are bloating with features nobody wants, and contribute nothing but extra lines of code.

It'll surprise nobody that at least some of the non-execution of features is down to site ad-blockers and the like, but the end result is: 83 per cent of available features are executed on less than 1 per cent of the most popular 10,000 websites.

ALS, ambient light events , would let browsers respond to the light level the laptop, phone or desktop is exposed to if anybody used it.

The Encoding standard would let JavaScript code read and convert between different text encodings if anyone used it, but it's even more unloved than ALS.

Iframes fall into a different category: half of the sites use iframes because who doesn't love a popup?

The integration will allow users to experience Alexa outside of the house, making Core the first truly independent 3G wearable with such functionality.

Core users will be able to have Alexa check weather and traffic updates, grab and recite the latest news headline, set timers, tell a joke, shop for gifts and necessities on Amazon and even order a pizza, among other tasks.

Advertised as a hackable computer, the device features Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS tracking, 3G connectivity and more.

Adding Alexa to the mix only heightens its potential.

Perhaps Pebble will strike a deal with Amazon to bring Alexa to its smartwatches as well but for now, it s only testing the waters with Core.

That s not entirely surprising when you consider the campaign is collecting funds for three different products – two new Pebble smartwatches and the Core.

Soon, Google will add one of the most commonly requested features to its Drive file hosting, sharing, and collaboration service: shortcuts.

These will allow users to create pointers to files from either the same drive or another, separate shared drive.

The new feature will work just like shortcuts in Windows—they are pointers to a file stored in another location.

The shortcut can be stored anywhere without impacting the location of the original file.

Google gave this example in its blog post announcing the feature:

If Paul in marketing shares a document from his team’s shared drive with the entire sales team, Greta in sales can create a shortcut to that document in her own team’s shared drive.

The Windows 10 Creators Update introduced a Game Mode that would, in theory, hand over most of the hardware resources and processing power to games.

Now it seems that Microsoft has plans to go the other way and introduce a feature that would reduce programs’ use of resources in order to prolong battery life.

“Power throttling” isn’t going to be its final name, but that pretty much explains what it does.

Gamers already had their fun in the Creators Update.

Soon, power-conscious users will have their due as well.

It’s even more important for those who need their laptops or tablets for working on the go.
