AT is planning to launch another streaming television service, the company revealed in a financial report detailing its second-quarter earnings.

Assuming everything goes according to plan, AT will start testing the service — currently referred to as AT TV — in the third quarter of 2019, stacking it on top of DirecTV NOW, Watch TV, and the upcoming HBO Max service.

AT currently offers AT Watch, a $15/month streaming television service offering around 35 channels, and DirecTV NOW, a streaming television alternative to the DirecTV pay-TV satellite service.

In recent weeks, the company also took the wraps off HBO Max, an upcoming streaming service that will mix live and on-demand content with exclusives to take on Netflix.

The company isn’t stopping with these services, it revealed in its second-quarter earnings report.

AT plans to start testing a new ‘thin client video service’ called AT TV starting in Q3 2019.

Apple has yet to produce a streaming television service despite pioneering the movement years earlier and reportedly plugging away at the matter ever since.

Its latest proposal is still within the realm of streaming TV but not the cookie-cutter offering you’ll find elsewhere.

Sources familiar with the matter tell Re/Code that Apple is now interested in selling customers a streaming television bundle consisting of HBO, Showtime and Starz.

Apple offers access to each of these premium networks individually but not as a complete set.

The move wouldn’t be all that different from how traditional pay-TV operators bundle premium channels although the major difference is that customers are usually required to subscribe to a basic level of TV service before being allowed to purchase a premium bundle.

An Apple premium bundle would sell as a standalone product and be available via Apple TV and iOS devices.

The Walt Disney Company, about a month away from debuting its premiere streaming television service Disney+, will no longer run advertisements for Netflix on any of its television entertainment properties, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

The decision from Disney not to allow advertisements for Netflix marks a wrinkle for both established and upstart streaming television services trying to woo new subscribers to their services.

Linear television networks have long run ads for streaming services, and Netflix has been a reliable big spender for TV spots, even as linear ratings have continued to decline as consumers shift their attention to Netflix and other OTT viewing.

Nearly every major streaming service ran ads during last month’s Emmys broadcast, for example, with Disney+ landing the first position in the night’s first ad break.

As traditional media companies get into the streaming space, though, the calculus to accept ads from now-direct competitors could change.

Disney, which owns the television properties ABC and the Disney Channel, had initially planned to prevent all rival streaming services from running ads on its properties before it reversed course for every company—save Netflix—according to WSJ.

The meme of the moment is here and it s pretty creepy.

As our own Romain Dillet points out the title artistry for the Netflix series Stranger Things is surprisingly beautiful and compelling.

Now the good folks at design studio Nelson Cash are letting make our own.

While many of the titles I ve seen so far aren t very scary it s still fun to make the thing say funny stuff like this, this, and this.

The fact that this exists at all is a testament to the wild and wooly new world of streaming television and how a small show on a service previously dedicated to documentaries, TV reruns, and B movies can change the way we perceive TV.

HBO Max, AT’s foray into a crowded and competitive streaming television market, will come onto the scene in May 2020, and the service will cost $14.99 a month—the same price HBO subscribers are currently paying for that service.

The news, which was announced Tuesday at a WarnerMedia investor day in Burbank, Calif., means the streaming service will cost the same as a subscription to HBO’s existing cable service.

And the May premiere date will leave HBO Max having to play catchup not just with Disney+, which is expected to be a formidable rival when it premieres Nov. 12, but also with NBCUniversal’s rival streaming service Peacock, which is slated to debut in April.

HBO Max’s price point will likely aid in AT’s task of building scale for its upcoming streaming service in an increasingly crowded streaming television space.

Existing HBO subscribers, which in the U.S. number around 34 million, will be encouraged to make the switch to the new service, and the 10 million HBO subscribers who are AT cable customers will be able to make the switch for free, said Tony Goncalves, the CEO of Otter Media who has been heading up the development of the direct-to-consumer product.

Customers who buy HBO through other cable providers may not be able to make the switch as seamlessly, as AT is still in discussions with other providers to allow for HBO Max access.

Getting rid of cable is an enticing prospect.

Who doesn't want to drop a monthly $100-plus bill?

You could pay for internet, and then pay for services like Hulu, Netflix, HBO, and Amazon.

Those services quickly add up in price, and monthly internet costs are high.

There's another option: streaming television over the internet — legally — through services like Sling TV and PlayStation Vue.

These services offer channel lineups that are similar to those you already have through cable packages, but they cost much less and run on devices you already own.

T-Mobile's much-anticipated TV service has proven more complex than originally thought, forcing a delay in its launch, Bloomberg reported Wednesday.

T-Mobile CEO John Legere promised the service would launch this year when he announced in 2017 the acquisition of Layer 3 TV, a tech TV company.

T-Mobile billed the service as a breakthrough for people who "love their TV, but ... hate their TV providers," promising a combination of streaming TV and online video without lengthy contracts or unwanted channel bundles.

Executives wrestled with the decision of offering a typical streaming service or waiting until 2019 to launch a more groundbreaking product, Bloomberg reported, citing unidentified people familiar with the project.

T-Mobile didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
