Well, we've been anticipating it for a couple of years now and finally Tesla's Model Y has been unveiled to the public.

The Model 3-based crossover SUV is pretty much what we expected.

It's a little bit of Model X (including an optional third row of seating) minus some of the fancier gimmicks plus a whole lot of Model 3 DNA.

As Musk announced via Twitter recently, Model Y pricing starts at around 10 percent over what a comparably-equipped Model 3 does while offering a useable range of approximately 300 miles.

This works out to a $39,000 standard range model which Musk says is due in 2021.

What you get in trade is a slightly more family and cargo-friendly shape and the smug satisfaction of knowing you've got the newest Tesla on your block.

Customers can already place an order for the Tesla Model Y, a mid-sized crossover SUV that won’t go into production until 2020.

Tesla requires a $2,500 deposit to complete the order for the all-electric vehicle, according to information posted on its website.

A disclaimer on the order form states that “production is expected to begin late next year.” Under that timeline, deliveries wouldn’t begin until late 2020 or possibly early 2021.

There are other clues on the order page, including that the seven-seat interior won’t be available until 2021.

The Model Y will come standard as a five seater.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveiled the Model Y on Thursday night at the Tesla Design Studio in Los Angeles.

Slotting in between the Model 3 and the larger, more expensive Model S and Model X, the all-electric crossover could well be Tesla’s most popular car so far.

Model Y will be closer to the Model 3 than the Model X

The two easiest approaches for the Model Y that Tesla could’ve taken would either involve shrinking or growing some of its existing models.

However, it’s clearly going to be a taller vehicle, looking like it has been stretched up compared to the Model 3.

It’s probably a wise decision, too: the automaker had prolonged issues with the upward-swinging doors when it first launched the Model X.

Tesla Model Y pricing is already roughly known

Early Friday morning, Swedish time, started Elon Musk its presentation of Tesla's newest vehicle, suven Model Y.

According to the magazine Wireds first impression: ”If the Model 3 was an electric car for the masses, the Model Y of the electric car for the masses that they really want” (at least in the USA).

During a 30-minute appearance did Elon Musk to tell me that:

Model Y becomes 7-seater as an option, on three lines.

It has no måsvingar, as the Model X.

Model Y launched in four main versions.

Tesla is now taking preorders on its website for its newly unveiled Model Y, an all-electric crossover SUV and the company’s fifth electric car.

The company unveiled the Model Y at an event outside Los Angeles Thursday evening.

The long range Model Y will come first in the fall of 2020, and will have a range of 300 miles, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said.

Tesla will also sell an all-wheel-drive dual motor version for $51,000, and a performance version for $60,000— both of which will also be available in fall 2020.

The cheaper, standard range version with a range of 230 miles won’t be available until 2021, Musk said, and will sell for $39,000.

You can preorder all versions of the Model Y except the standard range.

Tesla CEO, Elon Musk has confirmed that the company's next vehicle, the Tesla Model Y, won't go into production until early 2020.

Originally rumored for a possible 2018 arrival, followed by claims that Tesla would start production towards the end of 2019, those eager to get their hands on the all-electric compact SUV will have to wait a little longer.

The Model Y is expected to slide in under the larger Model X SUV, and is said to be built on a brand new platform, not the one that the Model 3 is built on as previously thought.

Musk, speaking on a conference call, also promised a "manufacturing revolution" when it comes to the production of the Model Y.

The Model Y will be built at a new factory, with the announcement of exactly where the factory will be to be made no later than Q4 of this year.

Manufacturing for the Model Y will focus on a simpler design with a different battery technology which requires less wiring and faster production, with improved automation of the line also helping cars roll off quicker.
