You’ve got to hand it to the folks at Google — the idea of quality score is pretty brilliant.

Unlike most search engines born in the ’90s, Google realized that the success of paid search advertising was directly tied to the quality and relevance of their paid search ads.

After all, if someone searches for “best dog food for rottweilers,” and the first result they see on the SERP is a handful of text ads selling Toyota hatchbacks, they aren’t likely to be wowed by your search engine.

If people think your search engine is lousy, they won’t use it… which means no one will pay to advertise on your search engine, either.

But, if you incentivize advertisers to create ads that are relevant to a user’s search, you can maintain the quality of your SERP and still make money from paid search advertising.

Mike Grehan, chief marketing officer and managing director at Acronym Media, and chairman of Sempo - the global trade association for search marketers - has been on the marketing scene for over three decades.

Talking to The Drum on what is next for search and his upcoming appointment as a judge for the Search Awards USA, he is certain that the search industry may become broader than just focusing on SEO and the paid search channels that agencies have done in the past.

Mike Grehan: “We’re going through quite a search engine advertising (SEA) change with advances in machine learning and artificial intelligence.

“Everyone is talking about voice activated search, so that’s pretty big.

However, it’s worth pointing out that, each time we talk into our mobile device, it’s not all about doing a search at Google.

The majority of the time we’re actually looking for service from our digital assistants.

I was wondering what strategies one could use to promote their search engine, in order to increase the user base of people using it?

Would it be possible for one to promote via affiliate marketing?

If so, do you have any examples of an agency which has done so in the past?

Would one promote their Chrome/Firefox plugin for ease of use, or would you promote straight to the website?

Personally, if it was via banner advertisement in an affiliate capacity, I would go with the plugin, to shorten the steps needed, but that is just my opinion .

It's been hard to search for something regarding promoting a search engine ironic, right?

Here are ideas to speed up the content-generating process without sacrificing quality.

1 when trying to produce several 500-1,000 word articles per week is to not fall into the trap of creating fluff that doesn't benefit anyone.

Outlines are the best way to map out the focus of an article and how it logically leads to a conclusion or important point.

You can begin simply through brainstorming sessions in which all you do is write down the most powerful keywords relating to your content.

The outline process should only take about 10 minutes.

Show your readiness to collect content ideas as they come, so that they are at your fingertips when you need them.

Learn how to master proven strategies, avoid costly mistakes and grow your business.

In this edited excerpt, contributing author and founder of Backlinko.com Brian Dean describes the six easy steps you need to take to create a site that's optimized for the search engines.

In the early days of SEO, “on-page SEO” was synonymous with keyword stuffing, hidden text, and robotic sounding copy.

Strategically embed keywords into your pages so Google can easily understand the topic of that page.

Now it’s time to show you how to create pages that are optimized for search without over-optimizing your site or turning readers off.

If there’s an on-page SEO mistake I see over and over again, it’s trying to cram 10 keywords into a single page.

If you want to see how you would look with a different hair colour or haircut you still need to be skilled in Photoshop in order to have a realistic idea of how a drastic change would turn out.

The same goes for recognising someone who has transformed their appearance or indeed if you wanted to see how you might look in 20 years' time.

Saving the agonising hours on the computer, researchers at University of Washington have developed incredible face swapping technology that analyses any photo of you, cuts out the face and then inserts it into photos it finds on the Internet based on your search query using key words and thousands of referenced images.

The personalised image search engine, called Dreambit, is one of the latest projects from developer Ira Kemelmacher-Shlizerman, UW assistant professor of computer science and engineering.

The technology allows anyone to see how they would look with a totally new look, whether this is from another era like the 1930s or hairstyle or different country.

"curly hair" and the software scours the internet for images that match the key words in your description before merging these images seamlessly with your face.

Will the search engines or bid management platforms release an innovation that transforms how we buy?

Will a new player emerge and totally revolutionize the search industry?

When we look at the most sophisticated ways to buy, we ll find some clues about what the future holds.

Technically savvy search marketers can be innovative with campaigns above and beyond what bid management platforms BMPs provide.

They can expertly work in between the BMPs and UIs, using advanced practices such as AdWords scripting.

However, the most sophisticated buying is done in a completely algorithmic fashion using in-memory computing systems with active API data transfer.

Snapchat has made face-swapping a all the rage, but that s normally just something you do with your friends.

A new search engine called Dreambit lets you face swap into pretty much any look you can imagine.

The tool works by analyzing your uploaded photo, and then performing a Web search for images that generally match the shape, pose and expression of your own.

As far as we can tell, it works pretty darn well.

Basically, you upload a photo, and then type in a query like curly hair to see what you would look like with, well, curly hair.

You could also type in something like 1950 s to see what you would look like in the fashion of that era.

I could use some insight into what folks are seeing out there with regards to seo, blog length, and blog breadth.

I am looking into a strategy of "corning the market" on a handful of keywords related to my blog.

The strategy would involve developing a large number of short form, 250 to 400 word, articles about my search phrases.

I would be doing something like 250 articles, spread across 10 to 25 search terms, and posted to my blog all at once.

The content would not simply be changing the titles within a keyword/search phrase but would approach a search tea from all directions the term can be viewed from.

What I need information on is:

In this edited excerpt, the author offers some tips for working keywords into your site content in order to attract the search engines.

If you're a newbie to internet marketing, you might be wondering, "What the heck is keyword optimization?"

This is software that tells you each of the combinations used with a particular keyword, along with how many times the original keyword and its combinations have been used.

They're all the same: You enter in the desired keyword and are given a list of results.

If you find that your keyword receives a lot of visitors--from 20,000 to 30,000 visitors a month for exact matching terms as a minimum--these are the keywords you may want to consider as part of your keyword optimization strategy.

If your site is fairly new, start with the less competitive terms and build out using longer phrases to get some traffic and conversions.

Search for just about any topic using any search engine and you are likely to see a hodgepodge of links for information, news, video, images and even blog posts.

Make the Pictures Worth It

For even greater success in appealing to search engines, optimize images so that they are more accessible to your site visitors by:

• Using unique, relevant images that users cannot find elsewhere.

• Resenting high-quality images large enough for the intended use.

• Including related images and content to enrich the user's experience.

When asked about this a few months ago, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said “Voice interface is only going to take you so far on shopping.

It’s good for reordering consumables, where you don’t have to make a lot of choices, but most online shopping is going to be facilitated by having a display.”

Do you have an AI strategy — or hoping to get one?

Check out VB Summit on October 23-24 in Berkeley, a high-level, invite-only AI event for business leaders.

Amazon has since released the Echo Show, which does have a display.

The main shopping use case on Echo Show is still reordering, rather than finding something new and buying it.

Search engines have a peculiar business model: They exist to quickly direct you somewhere else.

This is in direct contrast to your typical web business or social platform, where they do everything they can to keep you engaged and on that platform.

This can’t have escaped the notice of the good folks at Google.

And now, many questions are answered directly on the search engine.

This keeps you on the page a little longer and (I would imagine) ups the likelihood of your conducting another search or — shock, horror!

— even clicking on a search ad.
