Pasties are one of those things we all enjoy, whether you're a fan of the Cornish pasty, a steak slice, or prefer to go for the good old fashioned sausage roll.

But if you ever felt like buying one was too much of a hassle, Greggs has you covered with the announcement that it will be launching its own drive-thrus across the country.

The decision was made after a successful trial in Irlam, which showed Greggs that customers want convenient access to all their favourite pastry-based foodstuffs.

There was nothing very revolutionary about it, though, making it no different to a drive thru at McDonalds or any other fast food outlet.

It does, however, mean you can grab a chicken bake without having to park your car and stand in a long queue of people.

The downside is that the drive-thru menu will be more limited than the one available in store, sticking with the classic things like sausage rolls and the like.

Motorists visiting drive thru restaurants could be handed a £1,000 fine and six penalty points, it has been revealed.

Although rising in popularity due to their convenience and ease of use, mobile-based payment services such as Apple Pay and Android Pay could land you in serious hot water at the drive thru.

That’s because even stationary at a drive thru payment window, this classes as a law-breaking use of your phone while driving.

Although the standard fine for using your phone while behind the wheel is £200 and six penalty points, this can be increased to £1,000 if your case goes to court.

Changes to the law planned on cracking down on smartphone use by drivers means this fine could soon because available as an instant punishment.

Under the new laws, simply touching your phone while piloting a car could land you a £1,000 fine and six license-tarnishing penalty points.

The problem is, your local appliance store doesn t help much, considering you only have the option of perusing the wares, rather than sampling the bean-abetted goods.

What follows are five of the best coffee makers worthy of helping you get your daily caffeine fix.

Why you should buy this: The Bonavatia 1900TS is a compact yet eloquent coffee maker that brews some of the best drip coffee we ve ever tasted.

Who s it for: Limited counter space but high coffee standards?

Pre-infusion allows for your coffee to extract evenly, producing a more consistent brew — and a hell of a good cup of coffee.

Moreover, the device s thermal 8-cup carafe keeps the coffee piping hot around 150 degrees Fahrenheit for nearly four hours after the brew cycle completes.

On Call Welcome once more to On Call, where Reg readers share the tech support moments that really made their eyes roll.

This week, meet “Ronald”, who has had a range of in-house and outsourced IT jobs in his career but wrote in to tell us about his work for a famous fast food company.

“I worked the night shift dealing with the joys of their technology at an hour when people were most intoxicated,” he said.

You would hope that wouldn’t include the people at the other end of the phones – but in light of this story, El Reg thinks perhaps one shouldn’t be so sure.

Ronald described the opening scenes from one of the most incompetent calls he had to deal with:

A car waits outside a drive-thru funeral parlor in Saginaw, Michigan.

A Japanese funeral parlor has begun offering drive-thru funerals to accommodate people with disabilities.

The move reflects Japan's rapidly aging population.

This widespread aging, combined with Japan's low fertility rate, have created what economists call a "demographic time bomb."

Over the last decade, Japan has become what economists refer to as a "demographic time bomb" — a vicious cycle of low spending and low fertility that has resulted in a population decline of 1 million people and trillions in lost GDP.

Signs of the time bomb are everywhere, including prisons turning into de facto nursing homes and friends marrying one another out of desperation.

Amazon’s latest attempt to reinvent shopping is a grocery store that brings food to your car — like a drive-in burger joint.

Amazon took the wraps off its AmazonFresh Pickup stores today in Seattle with a promotional video boasting the service as a “fast and easy way to order groceries, pick them up, and be on your way in minutes.” Amazon has not said when the two locations — in the SODO and Ballard neighborhoods — will open to the public; they’re currently open to employees in “beta.”

The service will be offered exclusively to Prime members as a free alternative to the original AmazonFresh service, which delivers groceries to your house.

Amazon’s unveiling today was met with hiccups: The company had trouble keeping this project secret (permit filings leaked weeks ago), and Amazon’s other grocery store currently in beta — Amazon Go, a brick-and-mortar store with no checkouts — had its public launch delayed yesterday because the technology reportedly doesn’t work properly.

Sources have surfaced with a twist on the Amazon grocery store rumors we ve been hearing — the company reportedly plans to launch physical convenience stores, as well as curbside grocery pickup locations for those who place an order online.

This news follows a previous report in which we heard Samsung was considering opening its own grocery stores with a drive-thru of some sort, allowing customers to order online, then have the groceries loaded directly into their vehicle.

According to sources speaking with the WSJ, Amazon is planning to launch small physical stores that will offer the same kind of limited but useful array of products as other convenience stores: bread, milk, meat, and some other perishable items.

The stores would also be tapped into the larger Amazon ecosystem, though, with some kind of physical devices located in store enabling customers to order other items for pickup — it is suggested those items could be things like cereal and peanut butter.

The company apparently is keen to launch its drive-thru service, too, with the sources saying Amazon wants to launch drive-in locations for grocery order pickups.

At these locations, Amazon workers will bring grocery orders directly to one s vehicle.

Minneapolis, Minnesota, will not be home to any new drive-thru windows in the future.

Following a city council vote, members have voted to update zoning laws that will ban construction of any new drive-thru windows.

Businesses with existing drive-thru operations needn't worry, however, as they've been grandfathered in.

The whole premise behind the change is to reduce vehicle emissions, Streetsblog reported Friday.

A secondary component of the ban is to ensure pedestrians remain safe on walkways.

The Minneapolis City Council declared the zoning change will help achieve the city's goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80% come 2050.

Innovation has long since been disruptive in nature.

Take Blockbuster, for example, which is down to just one store, largely due to Netflix and other streaming services.

Or the taxi industry, which has dwindled due to ride-sharing services such as Uber and Lyft.

As technology advances and entrepreneurs notice an opportunity to be had, innovation occurs.

That's exactly what architecture firm Dahir Insaat is doing with its awesome drive-thru supermarket concept, which attempts to combine convenience and practicality.

The fast food giant has plans to introduce a mobile app and wants to expand its delivery capabilties

McDonald’s has unveiled a long-term global growth plan, outlining a range of technology-driven initiatives to increase the number of customers it serves and provide significant growth.

“We have fundamentally changed the trajectory of our business over the past two years.

Now, we are fit for purpose, ready to build on our momentum and transition to focus our efforts on profitable, long-term growth,” said President and CEO Steve Easterbrook.

“We are building a better McDonald’s, one that makes delicious feel good moments easy for everyone, and I believe the moves we are making will reassert McDonald’s as the global leader in the informal eating out category.”

One of the main focuses of the plan is to increase the company’s use of technology in order to improve the customer experience “in restaurants, in the drive-thru, and on the go”, building on the introduction of wireless charging hotspots in 2015.
