Consumers crave visual content more than ever before -- and their taste for video continues to increase.

And yet a study by Demand Metric found that less than 10 percent of companies surveyed were incorporating that highly actionable viewing data into their marketing automation or CRM systems.

Which is more memorable -- meeting someone in person or seeing his or her picture on Facebook?

Brands are always striving to reach that same level of trust; and building an emotional connection is the best way to grab attention and create authentic, lasting bonds.

Until everyone owns a virtual reality headset, video is going to be the only way to truly capture multiple layers of human emotion.

Consider two tools that airlines use to communicate safety information: Would you rather read a 2D print pamphlet in the seat back in front of you or watch a video with music involving actors and stunts?

What’s the most efficient way to learn as much info as quickly as you can?

That's what this post sets out to answer.

After all, learning stuff online is the new standard for learning.

And it’s not just “how to tie a tie” how-to videos, it’s also learning hard skills.

According to a recent report 59% of employed data scientists learned skills on their own or via a MOOC.

But how can we take better advantage of online learning?

Adding testimonials is probably one of the easiest ways to improve your website, and a good one can generate more selling power than some of the best sales copy out there.

Whether your customers are raving about what your product has done for them or about the great service you gave, they're telling your visitors first and foremost that they had a positive experience with your products and company.

Because testimonials aren't written in your "voice," they stand out in your copy as candid and unbiased accounts of how well your product works.

A good testimonial has the power to convince even your "tough sell" visitors that your product or service really made a difference in your customer's life--and can help them, too.

It's the first time in five months that anyone had really purchased anything."

If you sell primarily to seniors, for example, ask your customers if you can include their age along with the testimonial.

Online consumers hate arriving at a website, only to be immediately bombarded by an in-your-face message intended to distract them into taking the action the website owner wants.

The pop-up message is almost never relevant, and the timing is so inappropriate that it can annoy visitors into leaving.

There's a pop-up which, if relevant and timed right, can be an effective and nonintrusive marketing tool: exit pop-ups.

Since they're displayed as visitors leave the site, exit pop-ups don't distract your potential customers from completing their mission: conducting research, placing an order or some other action.

You can create a pop-up to invite your website visitors to subscribe to your e-zine, download a special report, request a free quote or shop now to receive a discount.

These may encourage your site visitors to order before they go, or at least give you their names and e-mail addresses so you may communicate with them in the future.

How-to queries, as a whole, are a mix of science and art.

However, there are definitely best practices to follow to make sure you can rank consistently in the eyes of Google.

If your company has valuable information to help web visitors understand how to do something, use the following tips to rank high on Google and increase organic traffic to your site.

Use ordered lists, "Step" H2s and verbs - Google wants to highlight results without making the user even click on the article.

Make it easy for the reader (and Google) to scan your content for the quick steps using action items in H2 ordered lists.

Improve CTR with "in X time/steps" - by providing an ease or quickness factor to the title of your "how-to" guide, you'll set the user expectation that they can do whatever you're offering quickly and easily.

Not that you or I ever do it – plop down on the couch, put up our feet, click on the TV, and gorge ourselves on a full season of, oh, say, The Americans.

Netflix has mastered the art of prompting us – I mean, prompting people – to binge on its streaming content.

Nick Edouard, co-founder and president of LookBookHQ, suggests that we marketers make like Netflix and entice prospective customers with content they can binge on.

He means, stop sinking all your energy into getting people to click through to single (“dead-end”) content assets.

Instead, focus on keeping people engaged – hooked, even – after they click.

Typical marketing approach: Single-asset content offers

From the return of Duck Tales to Netflix’s hit wrestling look-back, GLOW, the 1980s are certainly on people’s minds these days, and ad agencies are no exception.

Earlier this week, we saw an Australian spot that imagined a feather-haired visitor from the ’80s getting hungry eyes for 2017’s streaming TV options.

And today we’ve got another fun retro campaign for streaming, this time from French provider Canal.

Agency BETC created a series of believably throwback ads for products that seemed like—and certainly were—marvels of innovation in their day.

Video rental stores, home VHS recorders, compact televisions and more are highlighted in the spots, which only transition at the last minute to highlight the contrast with today’s offerings of portable video on demand.

While it’s easy to mock the technology of yesteryear, these spots do a good job of respecting the ancestors of modern video by showing just how much convenience and flexibility they brought to daily life.
