Home automation or smart home technology gives safety, support, and reliability to owners of the house by letting them run their home appliances.

They can do all this by tapping on a smart home application installed on your smartphone or any other similar device.

This finally brings the older Nexus phones on par with Google's new flagships, the Pixel and Pixel XL.

When the Pixel phones were first released, there was a good bit of confusion as to which new features were Pixel exclusive and which were Android 7.1 features that would be coming to all devices.

To help clear things up, Google passed along a list in early October outlining which features went where.

Pixel Launcher—Round icons, a new weather/search widget, a swipe-up app drawer, a dynamic calendar icon, and a new app drawer design.

General Android 7.1 features or at least, features that made it to the Nexus phones :

Touch-input latency improvements—Lots of general work was done to improve touch latency on Android.

If you want to tap into the power and cloud storage offered by Google’s Gmail service, but don’t necessarily like the Gmail apps put out from Mountain View, then you’ve got plenty of choice when it comes to alternatives.

Thanks to the IMAP support built right into Gmail (head to Settings then Forwarding and POP/IMAP in the web interface to configure it), you can set up just about any email client to work with Google’s email service.

We’ve focused on apps that are particularly well suited to Gmail’s search-first, organise-later approach.

To help sift through the plethora of programs out there, we’ve also decided to prioritise apps with slick and updated mobile clients, so you can keep on top of your email while you’re on the move.

If you’re a serious emailer and can make use of the macOS app too (Windows “coming soon”) then Newton should definitely be on your radar.

Newton also has less social media focused features like read receipts, scheduled emails, an undo send feature, and snoozing capabilities.

For years, tech stocks in Asia have risen and fallen by the release cycles of Apple Inc.’s AAPL -0.44% iPhone as component producers gear up to supply new versions.

Smart speakers—voice-activated, internet-connected devices such as Amazon.com Inc.’s AMZN -0.58% Echo—have scored with consumers by allowing them to make purchases without picking up a phone thanks to onboard assistants like Amazon’s Alexa.

Apple, Alphabet Inc.’s GOOGL -0.60% Google, Samsung Electronics Co. and several Chinese competitors have followed Amazon into the market in search of the next big trend in consumer electronics.

That has added to demand for components like semiconductors, speaker modules and motion sensors coming from Asian suppliers, contributing to a supply crunch and lifting margins for those producers.

Smart speakers are just taking off, but will have a “smartphone moment” at which point they become ubiquitous, said Oliver Lee, investment director at Old Mutual Global Investors, which manages $37 billion in assets.

Some 10.7 million Amazon customers in the U.S. owned an Echo device at the end of the first quarter, up from three million a year earlier, according to research firm Consumer Intel ligence Research Partners LLC.

Amazon's Alexa added a new productivity skill to its tool set after we inadvertently discovered in mid-February.

The smart assistant—embedded in the Echo line of smart speakers, as well as many other devices—now works with Office 365 business accounts, officially.

That means anyone using Office 365 for work can now get their calendar updates from their smart speaker at home or in the office, as TechCrunch first reported.

Office 365 isn’t the first calendar to work with Amazon's Echo.

From the beginning, Alexa has integrated with Google Calendar, and in mid-February Alexa added Outlook.com calendar integration.

Oddly enough, we got a sneak peek of Office 365 integration back then.

IIoT is now the largest concept in factory automation today and this technology already affect the way factories operate.

At the same time, IIoT refers particularly to the affect of this innovation on industrial applications.IIoT technologies together generate“smart” networks.

Smart factory gives plant managers with remote access to wirelessly-connected machines — and access to a means of data on the operation of those machines — by automating the interaction between industrial automation equipment and systems.

Smart sensors — containing those with wireless and IO-Link abilities -are an essential part of making the smart factory a reality.Top Abilities of Smart FactoriesBelow are few abilities of smart factories that are remote monitoring, predictive maintenance as well as process optimization.Remote MonitoringComplete visibility into the operational status of machine components enables plant managers to remotely analyze and recognize systems instantly and identify and rectify issues before the effect on machine availability and productivity compounds. The data recorded by various devices can also be utilized in OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) calculations.

Not only can operators acknowledge to alerts rapidly as they occur, but historical data can be utilized to track machine uptime, production volume, rejected parts as well as other key measures.Predictive MaintenancePredictive analytics enables for more precise planning of machine maintenance, which can assist to minimize machine downtime, improve mean time between failure (MTBF) as well as minimize costs of unneeded preventative maintenance and spare parts inventory. With predictive maintenance, much of the assumption is eliminated because maintenance decisions can be created based on the historical and real-time data from the machine itself.

The wireless sensors then share that data to a wireless controller that makes data accessible instantly (via text or email alerts) and for long term analysis.By analyzing machine components in real-time, problems can be recognized and solved before they become too serious and cause additional damage or result in unplanned downtime.

the Window Smart is just as the name suggests, a "smart" window via its built-in sensors can detect whether the window is open or closed.

the Window to send further information if the window is open or closed to an app so that you always have an eye on the windows are closed, regardless of whether you are at home or away.

the App also has support for controlling and managing other stuff in the smart home such as klimatsensorer and lighting.

the Smart is available in a wide range of models and sizes.

The spread of Alexa and Google Assistant puts Microsoft’s Cortana in a particularly uncomfortable position, one where even the Windows PC isn’t safe from other companies’ encroachment.

And they’ll also be open for development from as many partners as possible, who want to build voice-specific applications or tie existing applications and services into the platform.

The company whose voice platform has the most momentum coming through CES is Google.

Google Assistant, which is already on Google Home devices and Android smartphones and TV boxes, is branching out to smart speakers.

Google is also introducing a line of smart displays—essentially, voice-activated speakers with screens on them—from JBL, Lenovo, LG and Sony.

They also offer a wider variety of hardware—multiple screen sizes, differing privacy features, etc.—and of course, full access to YouTube and other Google services, which Google removed from Amazon’s devices last fall.

As we enter the closing months of 2017, the battle for smart home supremacy is suddenly raging once more.

Last month, way back in 2014, when using your smartphone to lock or unlock your front door felt like you’d walked on to the set of The Jetsons.

That may sound basic, but it allows the Lock to monitor how long the door has been open, automatically lock the door when it closes, alert you if it opens accidentally, and alert you if it’s forced open by someone else.

This leads to an average installation time of just 15 minutes.

The August mobile app includes step by step instructions, with short video clips that makes installation a breeze.

The locks work with deadbolts from a wide selection of manufacturers, thanks to three color-coded plastic adapters included in the box.

We’ve all done it from time to time, and it can sometimes have disastrous results.

A smart garage door opener can give you peace of mind, as it takes home automation into the garage and puts it to work on everyday issues.

Most models will send you alerts in case you accidentally leave it open and allow you shut it from an app on your phone.

These smart features can help improve garage security.

Many good smart garage door openers are retrofits, designed to upgrade your current garage opener instead of replacing it entirely.

If your garage is more than, say, 10 to 15 years old, there’s a chance the smart device won’t be compatible.
