(Uppsala University) Hydrogen for energy use can be extracted in an environmentally friendly way from water and sunlight, using photocatalytic composite polymer nanoparticles developed by researchers at Uppsala University. In laboratory tests, these 'polymer dots' showed promising performance and stability alike. The study has been published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society.

(Uppsala University) Researchers at Uppsala University have developed a digital self-test that trains users to assess news items, images and videos presented on social media. The self-test has also been evaluated in a scientific study, which confirmed the researchers' hypothesis that the tool genuinely improved the students' ability to apply critical thinking to digital sources.

(Uppsala University) Today, the Swedish Government decided to assign to Uppsala University the task of setting up a new national knowledge center for research on nuclear disarmament. With an interdisciplinary approach and researchers in fields including peace and conflict research, nuclear physics, artificial intelligence (AI) and political science, the incipient Alva Myrdal Centre will conduct research with the goal of contributing to a safer world for humankind.

(Uppsala University) The European research initiative BATTERY 2030+ is now getting going. The ambition is to make Europe a world-leader in the development and production of the batteries of the future. These batteries need to store more energy, have a longer life, and be safer and more environmentally friendly than today's batteries in order to facilitate the transition to a more climate-neutral society. The project is led from Uppsala University.

Many countries treat still its water shortage by building dams and reservoirs.

Now, claims the research, led by Uppsala university, to measure, on the contrary, can worsen the problem.

But now an international team of researchers, led by Uppsala university, how magasineringen, on the contrary, can contribute to aggravate the problems.

Now have their results published in the journal Nature Sustainability

– We believe that it is unsustainable to try to increase the water supply to meet a demand increases on the water – which, in turn, is driven by the growing range, " says Giuliano Di Baldassarre, professor of hydrology at the department of earth sciences at Uppsala university.

He led the research team, and their article shows how the extension of reservoarers storage capacity in the long term, can have unintended effects.

(Uppsala University) In a new article published in the scientific journal Communications Chemistry, a research group at Uppsala University show, using computer simulations, that ions do not always behave as expected. In their research on molten salts, they were able to see that, in some cases, the ions in the salt mixture they were studying affect one another so much that they may even move in the "wrong" direction - that is, towards an electrode with the same charge.

Mikael Jonsson and Maria Strömme believe strongly in the university's new tech venture.

"the starting position is fantastic," says Maria Strömme.

the Goal is to give researchers and students the knowledge to go from ideas to reality

At Uppsala university carries out research in several areas, including technology.

Now pull up and running a centre of excellence with the name Upptech: Uppsala university school of technology.

Both believe that the initiative will bring out the university's technical profile in a whole new way.

It is extremely porous new material upsalite has been shown to hinder the growth of bacteria.

It can be open to methods to inhibit bacteria without penicillin.

three years ago, scientists created at Uppsala university by chance, an extremely porous magnesium carbonate which was given the name upsalite.

since Then, the research group led by professor Maria (Ssf) reviewed the areas in which the highly absorbent material can be used.

Katarina Bjelke, university director, Uppsala university, and Olof Karis, head of department at the department of physics and astronomy where Svedberglabbet, TSL, is organizationally placed.

To run the Svedberglabbet on is not compatible with our mission.

But we welcome initiatives from other stakeholders that can drive the plant forward, writes Katarina Bjelke and Olof Karis, Uppsala university.

Svedberglabbet, TSL, today has a less importance as a research facility in Sweden.

as this technology was ripe for clinical use, decided several actors to establish the Skandion clinic to meet health care needs.

the Operation of the plant would thus exclusively motivated by different types of commercial bestrålningstjänster.

Reynir Bödvarsson, seismologist at Uppsala university, says that the rescue effort after the quake in Italy can be risky because of the aftershocks.

From the seismicity point of view, says Reynir Bödvarsson, seismologist at Uppsala university, that the sequence of aftershocks in Italy has gone as one could expect.

– The largest efterskalvet came quite quickly, less than an hour after huvudskalvet, " he says.

– When buildings are partially collapsed, and there will be a relatively strong aftershocks, then the buildings can collapse further.

– But even if the probability is low that a severe aftershock occur in a few days, so it is not zero.

the Quake in Italy was 6.2 in magnitude.

Energy in the form of temperature or stirring affects the porbildningen when the material Upsalite is produced.

the Material Upsalite, which was discovered by chance, is very promising as a pharmaceutical excipients.

the Result gives hope to many new medications may come on the market.

Magnesiumkarbonaten Upsalite was created when researchers at Uppsala university forgot an experiment over the weekend.

It has a huge fuktuppsugande ability and previous researchers have indicated that the material could be valuable in torkfläktar or dishwashers.

the Whole background was that we wanted to stabilise the difficult to dissolve drugs, it was precisely the problem we wanted to solve, " says Maria Strömme, professor of nanotechnology at Uppsala university.

if you Have a smartphone and a microscope?

Then you have a couple of the tools to be able to film the living cells, according to a new study from Uppsala university.

filming the live cells is important in research to study how cells respond to different kinds of treatment with drugs or toxin.

But a method that has long been required very expensive equipment.

A new study from Uppsala university, published in the journal Plos One, shows how an ordinary smartphone, a microscope, a couple of special parts and accessible standardised electronics can be used to produce high-resolution movies and images of live cells.
