Game developers and publishers aren t always thrilled when fans take it upon themselves to remake games based on their intellectual property which is why you d better download this gorgeous take on the opening stages of the original Castlevania before the powers that be put an end to it.

The creator of this remake, dejawolf, notes that Castlevania: Remade in Unreal is about a year in the making.

The latest revision delivers a massive framerate improvement in certain areas dynamic lighting from particle effects was apparently the culprit .

That said, there s still plenty of work that can be done to further optimize the game as the GTX 860M-equipped laptop dejawolf runs the game on still struggles at times.

All things considered, the demo looks absolutely stunning and really makes you wonder what could be done in an official capacity if Konami was to get behind the project.

Found is a TechSpot feature where we share clever, funny or otherwise interesting stuff from around the web.

The remake of classic cyberpunk RPG System Shock will add virtual reality support - but only if it can more than double its current funding level.

Developer Nightdive Studios acquired the rights to 1994's original System Shock in 2012, going on to release the Enhanced Edition in 2015.

The project is already ambitious, aiming to reimagine one of gaming's most renowned titles.

Nightdive plans to channel the spirit of the original version - which saw players try to escape the isolated Citadel Station, a space outpost taken over by cyborgs and mutates controlled by the mad AI, SHODAN - while overhauling mechanics and visuals for the modern age.

This contemporary System Shock, which is seen as a reboot to the series, also boasts the involvement of Chris Avellone, designer and director of the legendary Planescape: Torment, in its development.

Just modernising the game isn't all, though.

Taking place immediately after the events of New ‘N’ Tasty, Soulstorm will once again follow the lovable Abe and his unusual race of Mudokon friends.

Rupture Farms lies in ruin and the evil glukkons have been defeated, now all that’s left is for Abe and friends to find a new home.

In case you’ve been living in the upside-down for the last few weeks, the second season of “Stranger Things” is imminent.

And you know what that means… media tie-ins!

Today at Google’s event we’ve already had AR “stickers,” but iOS gets a much more compelling item: a full-on SNES-style demake of the show.

Made by BonusXP for Netflix, the game looks like the sort of action-adventure we saw plenty of back in the Super Nintendo days.

There are apparently spoilers for the first season, but apparently not the second — that comes later.

It’s all free with no in-app purchases (for now), and is clearly a promotional item designed to get you in the mood for season 2.

p Don't start clearing your schedule for the Final Fantasy VII remake just yet.

Development has shifted to an internal Square Enix studio, and the game is likely still years away from being released.

Remaking Final Fantasy VII, one of the most acclaimed games of all time, is no easy task, and developer Square Enix appears to be having trouble with the project’s development thus far.

After struggling with outside developer CyberConnect2, the company has decided to shift development of the remake to an internal team.

In a YouTube video spotted by Polygon, project leader Naoki Hamaguchi revealed that he would be taking over control of the project, and his language makes it sound like Square Enix was not happy with the work being done on the game thus far.

“So far, development has been carried out mainly with the support of external partners.

Ever since the Switch launched last month, Nintendo fans have been anxiously awaiting the next blockbuster release.

Unfortunately, ARMS and Splatoon 2 won’t launch until this summer and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe won’t be ready until the end of the month, but on Tuesday, an intriguing multiplatform retro remake made its way on to the Switch eShop.

It might not have been on your radar, but the rave reviews it’s been receiving may convince you to give it a closer look.

Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap is an HD remake of a beloved Sega Master System game from 1989.

Developer Lizardcube and publisher DotEmu originally announced that they were working on a remake last summer, and now less than a year later, the game is available on PS4, Xbox One and Switch.

The Dragon’s Trap follows Wonder Boy as he traverses through an interconnected, 2D world fighting monsters and attempting to break the curse that has him transforming into different animals.

Thirty years ago, Nintendo released its first Metroid game for the Famicom platform.

Since then, we ve seen a few refreshes of the franchise, but none since 2004.

Not content with waiting it out for Nintendo to release a version for the current-gen consoles — or the upcoming NX — a group of fans created their own remake of Metroid, and it was awesome.

AM2R Another Metroid 2 Remake had been in development for more than a decade, and was based on the popular Gameboy title: Metroid II: The Return of Samus.

On Saturday, the creators launched the full version free of charge.

After playing it this weekend, I can honestly say it was as good or better than any Metroid game I ve played — and I ve played them all.

Cubios is introducing a unique handheld gaming console, dubbed WowCube, which was inspired by a Rubik’s Cube.

It’s also unique because it was designed by a 13-year-old boy and his father.

It’s not going to challenge the dominance of the Nintendo DS family or smartphones, but the family-run startup says it has created the first gaming console ever that one can twist, shake, and turn in one’s hands.

Savva Osipov, the 13-year-old founder of WowCube, and his family (including his father Ilya) are immigrants from Russia.

Arriving a few years ago, the younger Osipov got busy.

In his spare time after school, Savva works on gadgets like the WowCube, participates in Bay Area hackathons, and runs his own do-it-yourself (DIY) tech YouTube channel.

Chex Quest HD is a real thing.

Get ready to shoot lasers at booger-shaped aliens in crisp 1080p before long.

Even if you're not an avid video gamer, you've probably noticed a significant uptick in "HD remakes" of older, popular video games.

Everyone's doing them, and the remaster pool includes everything from redrawn, cartoony games like Capcom's DuckTales to gritty war simulations like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

You might argue that some of these aren't necessary, whether because they're "remasters" of games that are only a few years old or because the source material isn't a cultural cornerstone.

And you may be tempted to lump Chex Quest, a 1996 CD-ROM game packed into boxes of cereal in which players must save a race of square-shaped "Chex people" from booger-shaped monsters, into the latter category.

And our latest look at the Play Store s biggest and brightest new apps is rounded out by tricky rhythm game VOEZ and the Clash of Clans-esque Transformers: Earth Wars.

Here s another app you might consider: NBA Fit, a new resource designed by Under Armour to merge fitness resources and tracking with guidance and challenges inspired by the league and its many notable stars.

Reloaded is an homage to old-school arcade shooters, tasking you with keeping your plane in the air as you scroll upwards through waves of enemy ships and bullet patterns.

You ve got a new option: Egg comes from the makers of chat app Line, but it s a standalone offering that lets you record and send the results wherever you please.

VOEZ is another one of those games, offering notes you ll need to tap, hold, and swipe to the beat to keep your scoring chain alive.

It s grindy in a very familiar freemium way, but at least it looks sharp and brings back classic voice actors from the cartoon series.

Dedicated and talented fans have begun to remake yet another Nintendo classic in the impressive Unreal Engine 4.

We ve seen people reimagine portions of GoldenEye, Pokemon and even The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in the past, and now fans are moving onto Konami s gothic masterpiece: Castlevania.

Dejawolfs has spent the past four months working on the demo below, which recreates the opening stages of the 1986 original.

Animated in a gorgeous 2.5D style, the remake recreates the spooky atmosphere and oppressive lighting fans adore from the classic adventure.

Konami hasn t released a new entry in the Castlevania franchise since Lords of Shadow 2 in 2014, which received a less than lukewarm reception from critics and fans.

Publishers are renown for shutting down ambitious and lovingly crafted projects like this, with Nintendo slamming the ban hammer down on a number of hobbyist remakes.
