Since 2010, the FDA received 127 reports of seizures or other neurological symptoms, but research is still ongoing as the FDA doesn’t have enough information to link the events.

Acting FDA commissioner Ned Sharpless said in a statement that additional reports and more detailed information on reported incidents could help the agency identify risk factors.

“We’re committed to monitoring this issue closely and taking additional steps as necessary to protect the public, especially our nation’s youth, from the dangers of e-cigarettes and other tobacco products,” Sharpless said.

To be clear, not all of the agency’s 127 reports were for seizures: the FDA said that some of the reports were for other neurological issues such as fainting and tremors.

But unlike cigarettes, with vaping you aren’t ever “finished.” You can keep puffing and puffing, not realizing you may technically be getting the same amount of nicotine as you would chain-smoking.

Experts warned about nicotine overdose for years as the popularity of e-cigarettes exploded.

It’s close in wavelength to skin’s No.

Dermatologists and photobiologists have been researching blue light’s effects on skin over the past decade and have published contradicting results, some finding that it can cause skin cell death, hyperpigmentation, ageing and the production of free radicals, while others have found more positive effects in the form of wound healing in rats, the clearing of acne, and treatment of jaundice in newborns.

These intensities, whether “normal” or amped up, are far beyond what the average person could expect to experience emanating from their phone or computer screen.

In an excellent blog post tackling this question, chemist and science communicator Michelle Wong compared different brightness studies and found that brighter screens like an iMac were 100 times less damaging than the Sun’s visible spectrum alone, and smaller screens like a smartphone were 2,000 times less damaging.

In one study, researchers found that in human skin irradiated by sunlight, 67 percent of free radicals generated were caused by UV light, while 33 percent were caused by visible light.

Another experiment found that melasma patients who used a sunscreen that included visible light protection (in the form of iron oxides, a pigment often used in tinted sunscreens) saw greater fading of darkened patches on their skin than patients who were only protected from UV light.

Most of the scientific community has already concluded that the latest generation of cellular technology, 5G, is at least as safe to human health as the 2G, 3G, and 4G technologies that became globally ubiquitous over the past two decades.

After an extended review, the agency has just given 5G a fairly definitive thumbs up for safety, though even this high level of reassurance is unlikely to stop conspiracy theorists from suggesting otherwise.

On paper, the FCC’s findings stop short of explicitly declaring any cellular technology trouble-free, but if you parse the legalese, that conclusion is hard to ignore.

As Commission Chairman Ajit Pai explains, the FCC will “continue to ensure the health and safety of workers and consumers of wireless technology” by “maintain[ing] the Commission’s existing radiofrequency (RF) exposure limits,” which “for handheld devices are among the most stringent in the world.” Put more simply, the FCC says your existing cellular phone is already operating within strict, safe limits, and as the 5G era dawns, there’s no need to reduce radio signal strength further.

Pai is also proposing that the FCC do away with service- or technology-specific rules, and instead establish broad guidelines so that new devices can comply more uniformly with radio emission limits.

In other words, rather than acting like 5G is somehow markedly different from 3G or 4G, or triggering a new outcry whenever 6G or other wireless standards are launched, the FCC wants rules that treat all radio-based devices the same.

In early April, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a small advisory warning that it had received some reports of seizures possibly linked to electronic cigarette use.

At the time, the FDA said it had identified 35 cases associated with vaping; in an update published today, the agency said that number has jumped to 127.

In addition to seizures, the FDA warns that some neurological issues may be linked to vaping.

At the time of its April announcement, the FDA encouraged the public to report any instances of seizures or other issues that happened around the same time as vaping.

A link between the two hasn’t been found at this time — rather, the FDA is investigating whether some vaping products may be causing these issues.

In an update published on Thursday, the FDA said it has received 127 reports of both seizures and ‘other neurological symptoms’ that happened between 2010 and 2019.

Traditional generic drugs, on the other hand, are versions of a drug that are equivalent to a brand-name drug in active ingredients and effects but may have slight variations, such as in inactive ingredients like fillers and flavors.

EpiPen maker Mylan reveals generic—it’s only triple the price

High-profile examples of authorized generics include Mylan’s cheaper form of its EpiPen, a life-saving epinephrine autoinjector that curbs deadly allergic reactions.

But it’s still a staggering hike from EpiPen’s original cost of around $50 per injector in 2007.

That year, Mylan bought the rights to EpiPen and then raised the price more than 400% in the years that followed.

Moreover, because brand-name drugs’ list prices are often subject to rebates and discounts by middlemen, the authorized generics’ lower prices sometimes have no impact on how much drug companies net for their drugs.
