An international team of researchers just developed the most sophisticated treatment for male baldness ever: a hat that covers up your hairless head.

It also contains a self-actuating electrical ‘patch’ that stimulates the scalp, regenerates damaged tissue, and regrows hair thicker and quicker than pharmacological treatments.

Researchers from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, and Shenzhen University actually developed the electrical stimulation device not the hat.

What’s amazing about it is that it’s small enough to fit inside a regular baseball hat, doesn’t use batteries, and actually works.

The team conducted extensive testing on laboratory rats and mice – and at least one scientist’s dad – and determined that the design was a rousing success.

While we’re sure it’ll have to go through some sort of human trial or regulatory testing process before it’s available to bald men everywhere, the researchers are confident this could become a practical solution to male baldness – just not for everyone.

But they let it go.

All the things I just said were true about Jeffrey Epstein, the financier, convicted sex trafficker, and accused child rapist whose decades of personal and financial connections to entire TED conferences’ worth of marquee scientists and intellectuals have at last begun to have consequences for his enablers (but not Epstein, who died in jail in early August).

I was actually talking about Howard Hughes—aviator, film producer, mogul, creep … and vitally important philanthropist.

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute has $20 billion in assets today, and claims more than 2,000 employees; in 2018 alone it awarded $562 million in competitive, highly sought-after grants to fund biomedical research.

In the middle of the 20th century, Hughes was a predator; today the institute with his name on the door is one of the most prestigious and robust supporters of lifesaving scientific innovation on Earth.

No scientist would dream of saying no to a grant from HHMI.

The radio host Zane Lowe interviewed the singer Kanye West on Apple Music.

West called Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey his favorite founder and said Dorsey offered to invest in him early on.

He had less flattering things to say about Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, whom West had famously asked to invest $1 billion into his ideas.

West called social-media apps like Instagram "modern-day cigarettes" and said his meetings and conversations with Zuckerberg were "completely different" from his talks with Dorsey.

But today the UK government has dug deep to produce the princely sum of £250k to tackle this national problem.

The competition is part of the government's Tourism Sector Deal: an desperate attempt to help Britain attract more international business events.

Winners will be able to upgrade their existing connectivity to "gigabit-capable" broadband speeds.

Exact costs will vary between locations, however, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport said the average value per project will be approximately £30,000.

Making Blighty attractive to business delegates is all part of a cunning plan to boost tourist numbers during the off-peak season (surely the historically weak pound is enoguh - Ed).

In 2017, the UK hosted 592 international association meetings with business visitors making up almost a quarter of the 38 million visits to the UK in 2018.

People are still telling me that email is obsolete, that it can be replaced by Slack, Teams, or Google Chat. Some folks swear they can do more over instant messaging.  Or, even better, some proclaim (with an odd glare in their eyes from their webcam ring light), Zoom, Google Hangouts Meet, or BlueJean Meetings are the future.

And with its all Antipodean main event, there's plenty to get excited about when Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya step into the Octagon today.

Luckily, getting a UFC 243 live stream is the easy bit - no matter where on Earth you are.

Whittaker, the 28-year-old Australian fighter, has been impressing in the Middleweight division for a few years now and finally claimed the undisputed title by beating Yoel Romero a couple of years ago.

Today he defends the belt for the first time and the New Zealand-born MMA champ has another Auklander coming for the gold.

Former kickboxer Israel Adesanya is already interim champ, but will be desperate to overcome Whittaker to fully claim the top spot in the division.

And Australian heavyweight Tai Tuivasa will be hoping for a convincing victory in front of his home crowd against Sergey Spivak.

Depending on the temperature, a plant may synthesize the hormone auxin.

Depending on the situation, the presence of this hormone can be a signal that kicks DNA transcription into gear, promoting growth and development, or it can keep transcription from happening.

An interdisciplinary team comprising members of Arts & Sciences and the McKelvey School of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis has recently uncovered a mechanism by which a plant can be affected in a myriad of ways based on the presence of the same hormone.

The research was published Aug. 14 in the journal Molecular Cell.

Those responses are all results of Auxin Response Factors (ARFs), proteins which bind to DNA in a cell's nucleus to facilitate growth and development in one way, or another.

The answer began with an updated understanding of the fundamental nature of ARFs.
