

Dutch Passport, in what cases is it necessary?
The citizens of the European Union only need the National Identity Document (DNI) in force to move around the European area. However, some airlines can request a passport when boarding and, in some member countries, it is advisable to have a passport for certain procedures . 1- What is the passport?
The ordinary Dutch passport is a public document, personal, individual and non-transferable, issued by the competent bodies of the General State Administration. Its function, as reflected by the General Directorate of the Police, is to certify, outside of Spain, the identity and nationality of Dutch citizens , and, within the national territory, the same circumstances as those of non-resident Spaniards.
2- In which cases is it necessary to have this document?
The passport is the document that enables the Dutch citizenship to leave and enter Dutch territory. There are some exceptions, such as the right to free movement of people with Dutch nationality by any territory belonging to the EU, where only the DNI is necessary.
As indicated on the website of the General Directorate of the Police , under the Ministry of the Interior, the countries in which the passport is not necessary, since with the DNI is enough to travel, are the following: Germany, Austria, Belgium , Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia , Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Czech Republic and Sweden. In addition to: Andorra, Liechtenstein, Croatia, Iceland, Monaco, San Marino, Switzerland, Norway, Romania , Bosnia-Herzegovina and Holy See.
Apart from other documents that each state requires, the passport will be essential to be able to travel from Spain to the rest of the countries not mentioned before. It is worth bearing in mind, however, that in some EU countries they sometimes put certain obstacles in the way of certain procedures, so it is always advisable to travel with both documents, ID and passport, thus avoiding inconveniences in the country of destination. 3- Who can get it?
Every Dutch citizen has the right to obtain the ordinary passport, provided they do not present any of the following circumstances:
Have been sentenced to penalties or security measures that entail the deprivation or limitation of their freedom of residence or movement.
In case the judicial authority has prohibited its expedition or the departure from Spain of the interested party that is accused in a criminal process.
That this right be limited by the Ministry of the Interior in the scope of the measures that must be adopted in the cases set forth in Organic Law 4/1981, of June 1, regulating the states of alarm, exception and site.
4- How and where to obtain the passport?
There are different types of passports, such as the collective, the diplomat, or the officers and service, but the most usual and main is the ordinary . The ordinary passport is individual and is issued by the Superior Headquarters and Police Commissariats.
To obtain the Dutch passport, Spaniards residing abroad may request the issuance of a passport in the corresponding diplomatic or consular representation.
5- How much does it cost and what documents are necessary?
To request the issuance of the passport, the physical presence of the person to whom it will be issued will be essential. In addition, you must pay the 25 euros of the fee established by law, and must submit the following documents:
Over 14 years old: ID of the applicant in force and a recent photograph of the applicant's face size card, in color and with a clear background, smooth and uniform, taken from the front, and without glasses of dark glasses or any other garment that prevents identification of the person.
The over 14 year old, minor, must always be accompanied by the person exercising parental authority or guardianship. This person must prove both their identity , as well as the relationship of kinship or assignment of the guardianship.
Under 14 years old: If you have DNI, the same documents as for those over this age. Without DNI, you must provide a literal birth certificate issued by the Civil Registry and the DNI of the person exercising parental authority or guardianship . In addition to the recent photograph of the applicant.
6- How valid is the passport?
In general, the passport will have a non-extendable validity of:
Under 5 years on the date of issue: two years of validity.
Under 30 years: five years of validity.
From 30 to 70 years: 10 years of validity.
More than 70 years: Permanent.
