Stop Snoring From Tonight!

Sleep provides rest and recuperation. Sleep is The Mastery Of Sleep Review a homeostatic requirement, much like the need for food and drink. Sleep facilitates tissue repair. (Proteins are manufactured in greater number in the brain during sleep). One suggested function is that it aids memory and learning, although several experts have disagreed with this unproven notion. Sleep helps in fighting infection. Adenosine, a chemical compound which is involved in the body's immune response, increases in concentration during sleep.

There are five stages in the sleep cycle: Stage 1 to stage 4, non rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep. Stage 5 rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. This is where dreaming occurs. The sleeper's muscles of the eyeballs are constantly moving, although the eye lids are closed. People who have been woken during REM sleep claim to have been dreaming as soon as they are aroused.

REM causes complete relaxation of muscles, thus enabling dreamers not to physically act out their dreams, for example a person might be dreaming about walking or running, but is physically incapable of acting that out due to the muscle relaxation. Sleep walking has been studied and found to occur during NREM sleep.REM sleep decreases and NREM increases with increasing age in humans and other animals. For example, new born human infants require more REM sleep than older children. As the age of other mammals increases, such as rats, cats and guinea pigs, the requirement for REM sleep decreases.

When an animal commences sleep they go through the stage of awake to drowsiness followed by the four stages of NREM sleep. REM sleep proceeds NREM sleep in a cyclical fashion. This cycle can occur up to a number of times during the full sleep episode. Up to 80% of sleep is due to NREM sleep. Stage 4 NREM is where the sleeper is at their deepest period of unconsciousness. During NREM sleep, the blood pressure, heart rate and respiratory rate decrease.Sleep reduces the body's temperature. Studies undertaken by Baehr et al (2000) showed that people follow different circadian rhythms. Some were regarded as evening people who were more alert in the evening, and some as morning people, who were more alert during the morning.
