Do you know the reason behind performing abhishekam?

The word “abhishekam” is a Sanskrit word which means to wet around and involves the pooja bathing of consecrated images. In this Abhishekam in Varanasi, temple worships a central piece.  Hindus regard the different kinds of idols as living manifestations of divinity. The pandit for puja in Varanasi carried out the abhishekam and honours them with mantras and hymns.

Through different ceremonies like Abhishekam, the idols are served. The pandit

for Rudrabhishekam Pooja worships the idols and gives an opportunity to

express the devotees’ love and their deity. It is a chance to interact with God to

relate him on an intimate human level.

A large number of people comes for different rituals in Varanasi and at the time of abhishekam stand in long queues and push each other to see the abhishekam being performed to God. But do you know why this abhishekam is performed?

According to pandit for rituals in Varanasi, previously the idol of God is sculpted in white or black stone (like white marble). After the idol gets its proper shape on a very auspicious day, the prana parathishtapana takes place. Or else we can say that the idol is kept inside the garbha guddi. Then Abhishekam is performed.

The pandit for Abhishekam in Varanasi called Lord Shiva as Jivaratna, the jewel of life. In ancient Vedas, the jewel of life is considered as Shankara, Trayambaka etc, that is the source of all happiness in life. So, pandit for Rudrabhishekam Pooja performs Rudrabhishek for Lord Shiva.

Generally, kashi vishwanath rudrabhishek in Varanasi is performed at 5:00 AM to 6:00 AM. We all know that Kashi Vishwanath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and it is believed that Lord Shiva exists on the idol. So, directly it is attached with divinity. It is also considered that all the rituals in kashi have their own significance.

Performing Rudrabhishek in Kashi Vishwanath provides almost satisfaction, peace and growth as in Rudrabhishek, we are offering to Lord Shiva directly in the form of materials and enchant him.
