Nearly three months after the parliament passed J Reorganisation Act, state of Jammu and Kashmir has been bifurcated into two union territories- Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir with legislative assembly and the Union territory of Ladakh without legislative assembly on October 31 coinciding with the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel who united India after Independence.
A number of significant legal, administrative and symbolic changes will take place in J and Ladakh due to the implementation of J Reorganisation Act.
Let us take a look at some of the path-breaking changes taking place in J and Ladakh.
For employees of the state government, including police personnel, the change means a jump in salaries and perks as they are now central govt employees and thus become eligible for pay scales fixed by the central pay commission
The Election Commission may now carry out a delimitation process in Jammu and Kashmir, with the decks have been cleared by the President in this regard.
The J Reorganisation Act states that Jammu and Kashmir Assembly will have 107 seats (including 24 vacant ones for PoK) which will be increased to 114 after delimitation.
