Technology

The development of technology has drastically changed the world. It is unclear whether it is beneficial or detrimental to human lives, since there are numerous possibilities and perspectives. One fact is certain: people cannot stop its progress, and the world is becoming dependent on technology, so people must create a way to overcome the disadvantages and make it beneficial, which will result in greater evolution in the end. Overall, it is clear that technology is beneficial and can aid other aspects of human life. A detailed description of benefits see in papers on philosophy paper topics.

As people are unable to calculate the rates of progbress, it is impossible to determine what changes will be brought about with an even greater increase in technological advancements. Modern technology would seem futuristic to someone thirty or even twenty years ago. Primarily, the whole issue of the change in technology is very questionable. Previously, humans were not able to achieve this sort of breakthrough, and then, within a very short amount of time, technology came to be. Many people question whether this was a natural evolution or humanity had some help from some other form of alien life. But no matter how it came to be, technology is presently taking over the lives of people and natural existence. There is no way to get rid of evolution; therefore, people must learn the ways to control it and to predict what will come next, as it is unwise to refuse technology and go back to living in caves and forests.

The biggest question is that sometimes the problems overtake the benefits of technology. This closely relates to the way people receive information, and how it influences their morality towards the greater society. Primarily, there is the safety concern, as the information used in the social networks can be used by the advertisement websites, hackers, or those, who want to take advantage of people’s lives. Even though there are safeguards that try to prevent personal information from being shared with other institutions and sites, there are still some ways that information gets out. “Facebook” has been one of the cited networks that is widely used by people, but has compromised some private information. Even though the damage has been done, the site has adjusted its policies to better suit the users. Another issue is that people, who share information online, cannot really control, who can access their web page and browse their personal information. Anyone can leave a comment and become involved in a group of friends. This leads to many concerns, but people are still not aware of the security issues. As a result, it is clear that these people are being careless, and that technology and social networks would be greatly beneficial, if people control the amount of personal information that is shared on the social networks. These are meant to unite people and make communication much easier. Previously, this was not possible, so the benefits of networks cannot be denied.

Another disadvantage is said to be faced by educational institutions in the possibility of the students using the online resources without any control. The unauthorized use of “educational” sites, plagiarism, and communication with others will greatly increase the student’s chances to use it to their advantage, without relying on their own intelligence. Also, a student may discuss the topics given with other students, as well as other people. This would make the work less individual, and the views expressed and information used will be representative of a collective work of people instead of that particular student. As the opinion of an individual is the required aspect of work, social networks influence people in an undesired way. However, this is only one perspective. Students and the general public must be taught moral codes, and penalties for misuse of information have been known to exist. Technology creates an enormous advantage for self-education. People do not have to buy a number of books or scientific magazines. Videos which display natural life or scientific experiments can be used to visualize and comprehend the information, which was not possible until very recently. This eases the process of learning, as people do not have to conduct the experiments themselves or spend money to physically visit a location.

Another dominant view is that the development of virtual reality technology has reached heights that were not even imagined 20 years ago, and made people’s lives more artificial and unreal. There are the ways to experience physical sensations, smells, and other “real life” stimuli through the gaming experiences. The expressions of different forms of stimuli make cyber world more realistic than ever. This engulfs the person in a fake existence, making the real world unneeded and unwanted by the person. The conscious mind forgets that a person is in the computer world. The simulation of feelings and thoughts becomes so real that a person believes into the reality of the computer program and spends numerous hours in the cyber world. However, another side of the coin is that people can use this technology in order to perform difficult tasks. These can take a form of flying simulators for pilots, who can train to act in emergency situations, doctors performing difficult operations as training, so that at the time of a real one they are familiar with the process, or even people doing physical exercises, which are represented on the screen that will lead to a healthier lifestyle. It is clear that benefits will outweigh disadvantages, which can be avoided altogether.

An even greater advantage is the physical technology that has aided people. Today, it is possible to travel the world at a much greater speed. Cars, planes, trains, and boats have allowed people to see the world and widen their horizons. The time, which was previously spent on getting to work or crafting a product, can now be used to collect information, spend time with the family, or rest from the life’s worries. Technology has allowed people to live a fuller and more productive life. An opposite perspective is that all the technology has greatly polluted the Earth, and it has upset the natural balance that has existed for thousands of years. But it is not the technology that is causing such detrimental effects; it is the people, who are using the technology in greedy and money-making ways. Wind, water, and solar power can be used to create energy. The ability to produce nuclear energy instead of burning fossil fuels can enrich the world by providing the whole planet with electricity, drinking water, and food. Even genetically modified foods can be used to benefit others by preserving them longer to reach places and people that lack nutrients. Of course, it is a well known fact that people, who modify food and other products, only focus on making money, but that is why there are the organizations, which must control such criminal actions.

The scientific research, which leads to people finding out more about the planet and own lives, has created endless possibilities. People with illnesses, which could not be cured before, are now easily dealt with. People, who are missing limbs or organs, can rely on technology to allow them to live a full life without any limitations. As such, technology is undeniably beneficial; it is only a matter of how it is being used.
