November 18, 2019: Antalya-based carrier SunExpress, a joint venture between Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines is exercising options for 10 additional B737 MAX 8 airplanes at the Dubai Airshow to continue renewing its fleet.
The purchase, valued at $1.2 billion according to list prices, adds to a previous SunExpress order for 32 MAX airplanes.
However, it goes without saying that this requires the undisputed airworthiness of the model, granted by all relevant authorities."
The airline, which specialises in offering direct connections between Europe, Turkey and popular holiday destinations, has achieved significant growth in recent years as it steadily expanded its fleet of mainly B737 airplanes.
They have been a wonderful partner over the years, demonstrating every day the efficiency and reliability of the Boeing 737 across their growing network," said Stan Deal, president & CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
"We regret the impact the MAX grounding has had on SunExpress and its passengers.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a key enabler of all three,” said Tony Douglas, group chief executive, Etihad Aviation Group, at the 2019 Dubai Airshow.
In partnership with Boeing, this one-of-a-kind aircraft will be used to test technology, products, and initiatives designed to help reduce carbon emissions and build a future of sustainable air travel.
The specially-themed 787 will come into service early next year and operate regular flights in Etihad Airways' network, while occasionally serving as a testbed for examining ecological sustainability initiatives.
"The 787 Dreamliner and its track record of environmental performance make it the perfect platform to advance our industry's commitment to sustainable growth," said Stan Deal, president and chief executive officer, Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
"We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Etihad Airways to identify more opportunities to improve efficiency across commercial aviation."
Beyond the environmental testing on the airplane, the two companies will build on the technical capabilities that Etihad Airways has developed while maintaining its own Dreamliner fleet and that of other operators.

Boeing forecasts that Africa’s airlines will require 1,030 new airplanes by 2040 valued at $160 billion and aftermarket services such as manufacturing and repair worth $235 billion.Boeingshared the projection as part of the 2021 Commercial Market Outlook (CMO), the company’s long-term assessment of demand for commercial airplanes and services.“Africa’s strong, long-term growth prospects for commercial aviation are closely tied to the continent’s projected 3 percent annual economic growth over the next 20 years.
Initiatives such as the African Continental Free Trade Area and Single African Air Transport Market are expected to stimulate trade, air travel and economic cooperation.
Additionally, the region’s middle class and working population are projected to double by the end of the forecast period, driving increased demand for air travel,” according to the Boeing release.Randy Heisey, Boeing managing director of Commercial Marketing for the Middle East and Africa, said, “African carriers are well-positioned to support inter-regional traffic growth and capture market share by offering services that efficiently connect passengers and enable commerce within the continent.”
