November 27, 2019: Tesla unveiled three variants of its first-ever electric pickup, Cybertruck, with up to 14,000 LBS towing capacity from a starting range of $39,900 on November 22, 2019.
Within five days it has got 2.5 lakh preorders according to Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
The exterior shell of Cybertruck is built with 30X cold-rolled stainless-steel while the glass is polymer layered.
The vehicle is built to be durable, versatile and capable, with an exceptional performance both on-road and off-road.
Cybertruck will come in three variants: Single Motor Rear-Wheel Drive, Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive, and Tri-Motor All-Wheel Drive,” said the release.
Better truck than an F-150, faster than a Porsche 911.
Bookings of the dual-motor all-wheel drive and Performance variants of the Model 3 will begin from next week, confirmed Elon Musk.
Tesla may have been running a bit late on delivering on its promises, but that doesn't stop the CEO Elon Musk from coming out with more ambitious plans.
In a recent development, over Twitter that is, Musk confirmed that the AWD and Performance variants of the Tesla Model 3 will be available soon in the US, with bookings starting from as early as next week.
Being the most affordable Tesla, the Model 3 is only offered in rear-wheel drive configuration, while the Model S and Model X come with all-wheel drive as standard.
The Model X was always an AWD vehicle though, since it's a crossover.
That said, the AWD Model 3 will come with dual motors (one powering each axle) and is expected to feature a bigger 90kWh battery pack.
Indicating a drastic change in the sales strategy, Tesla is moving all its sales online.
The primary reason that comes in the mind for this move is to bring a cheaper Model 3 to the market.
This move surely implies that some layoffs and closure of stores are on the way.
Stating that some stores would change into information stores, Elon Musk indicated that not all stores would shut down.
Having said that, no exact information has been captured as to the number of stores to go under the hammer of closing.
Speaking about the move Elon Musk was of the view that, ”We will be closing some stores and that will be some reduction in headcount as a result.
