All you Need to Know about Fire Alarm System Design and its Components

A fire alarm is a stand alone device or a combination of several devices or network installed in a building or in an area, which gives audible or visual warning, or both, on a fire outbreak in that building or the area. A fire alarm system can be automatic, semi-automatic or manual.

Fire detection and alarm system design components

The latest fire alarm system is a combination of components designed in a way to alert you from fire. The following are the components of a fire alarm system design.

• Types of notification

There are three types of notifications available in fire alarm systems. They are:

1. Emergency Voice Alarm Communication

Emergency Voice Alarm Communication (EVAC) uses high fidelity speakers to alert the public. This voice activated system is capable to provide detailed audible direction or evacuation procedures, directing occupants to a safe place.

2. Strobe lights

Strobe lights are usually red in colour and are required in public places such as hallways, classrooms and so on. Strobe lights beam to indicate danger. These are life-saving for people having hearing problems.

3. Sirens

Sirens are the most common way to notify people of any danger around them. Sirens produce high pitch sounds to make the residents aware.

• Alarm initiating devices

Alarm initiating devices come both in manual and automatic. They inform the fire system of the danger or emergency. The manual forms include alarm buttons or pull stations that you have to trigger yourself when there is a fire. Automatic initiators get activated on their own in the presence of heat, flame, smoke and so on.

• Fire alarm control panel

The fire alarm control panel acts as a brain of a fire alarm system. This component monitors and manages the initiating devices and is the part that actually sends the signal if an issue is detected. More modern fire alarm systems have digital circuits implemented that can transmit data simultaneously to all fire devices programmed to it.

• Backup battery

It is important that all fire alarm systems are working at all times, so a battery backup is a must. That way, if the power goes out, fire system will still be able to work.

To learn more about fire alarm system designs and operations, you now have the option of availing eBooks. Lots of people around the world are availing these books for complete knowledge of fire alarm systems and all minute aspects of it.
