5 Frequently Asked Questions About NMAT

If you are hoping to enrol in an MBA programme, then your research must have unearthed information about NMAT. Now the usual CAT and GMAT are the most well-known and established entrance exams for MBA courses, but in the last few years, more examinations have cropped up to help students and colleges make a better match. One of these is NMAT.

Even though NMAT has been around for many years, the student community still has many questions about it. Here we aim to answer the most common ones.

 Q1. What is NMAT?

NMAT, which stands for the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) Management Aptitude Test, is conducted by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC). It was started by NMIMS to select candidates for its MBA programmes and was taken over by GMAC and is now accepted as an admission criterion by many leading management colleges in India.

Q2. How is it different from other main tests?

  • It is considered more convenient and flexible for students; you can choose a date, time, and location that suits you based on the availability of seats at the test center. Once you register, you have a 75-day test window (from the first week of October to the third week of December), during which you can take the test whenever convenient.
  • There are 48 test centers across India
  • It is designed to give candidates the best chance to show their abilities. You can answer the test sections in any order you like, revise your answers before submissions, there is no negative marking, AND most importantly, once you register, you can take the exam 3 times within your 75 day period and choose the best score.
  • NMAT also sends your test results directly to 5 programmes free of cost.

Q3. Which are some of the leading NMAT accepting colleges?

Some of the best colleges now accept NMAT. The entire list is available here, but here are some of the most popular ones.

  • SVKM's Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad
  • Indian School of Business (ISB) - (Advanced Management Programme in Business Analytics (AMPBA))
  • SPJIMR - Mumbai (For PGMPW)

  • Amity University, Delhi NCR
  • SRM University, Chennai, Delhi NCR Sonipat
  • VIT University, Vellore
  • Hyderabad Business School, GITAM University, Hyderabad
  • Jindal Global Business school - Delhi/NCR

Q4. What are the advantages of taking NMAT?

The NMAT is designed to measure the real skills needed to succeed in a b-school and naturally after that in the business world. The test is designed to gauge 3 primary abilities required – logical reasoning, language skills, and quantitative skills. Hence, many premier management institutes prefer NMAT scores over entrance examinations.

The unique retesting feature of NMAT is also much appreciated by students. Unlike a CAT where you get no second chances, NMAT allows the students plenty of opportunities to better themselves. You can revise your answers and also complete the whole test without worrying about negative marking. You also have the option of taking the test 3 times within one admission cycle. With 3 results, you can use the best one to approach colleges.

Q5. How much does NMAT cost?
