Deciding Between Scaffolding Rental and Scaffolding Purchase

As a construction site owner or manager, you might have considered getting scaffolding equipment to ensure the site is safe for everyone. The decision is usually a tough one, and deciding whether to hire or buy scaffolding equipment is even tougher. However, with the following tips, you can decide whether to go for scaffolding rental or to purchase and own such equipment.

  1. Consider your Budget

The first and key consideration you should make when deciding whether to hire or buy scaffolding is about your budget. Generally, the cost of acquiring scaffolding equipment is high, be it renting or purchasing, and the more that you need, the higher the costs become. However, the overall cost of buying the structures is higher than hiring them unless you are planning to use them for other projects or to start renting them.

Also, there are other costs associated with owning scaffolds that are not your problem if you decide to hire. By buying your structures, you will have to work out the spending on transportation, storage, and security. You will not incur these charges if you are hiring the scaffolds since the rental company takes care of the logistics, such as delivery to and from your site, their storage, and security expenses.

  1. The Length of the Project is a Key Consideration

The length of the project is another key reflection and can help you to decide between buying and renting scaffolding structures. If you project it to run between three and six months, it will not make any economic sense to buy the equipment unless you are planning to use them on a series of other projects. If you project the work to go up to, for example, the 6th month and beyond, it will only be wise to buy but with the plans of what to do with the structures after the job at hand is completed.

  1. Skills and Experience are of the Essence

The other key issue on determining whether to purchase or rent scaffolds is about the skills and experience needed to work with them. When you hire them, the rental company ensures to train you and your workers on how to set up, modify, and dismantle the structures. If you do not have the needed competency and skills to do all that, the decision to buy your own equipment may be an ill-advised one.
