Screen Unresponsive to Touch? Here’s What You Need to Do

Be it your smartphone, a tablet, or a laptop; it is no fun when a touch screen stops responding. It can get quite annoying sometimes. This is a pretty common issue and can happen due to several reasons. Nowadays, we are getting full touch screen panels on devices which makes it even harder to do anything because you don’t have the option to interact with the device using physical buttons. You can often feel stuck and unsure of what needs to be done. Here we are mentioning some of the most common methods you need to try out when a touch screen becomes unresponsive.

Trying Basic Fixes

Sometimes an unresponsive touch screen can be fixed with some basic efforts. You don’t always need to be doing advanced troubleshooting to make it work. You should always try to restart the device first. Restarting sometimes provides a fresh start to everything and is able to resolve touch issues automatically. It’s a good idea to clean the screen, and your hands as friction might be obstructing the touch-responsiveness of the screen.

Trying Intermediate Fixes

You should dry the device out if it has gotten wet. The liquid can cause a hindrance in touch responsiveness of the device. You should gently tap the edges of the device if it has recently suffered a drop or a hit. Tapping can sometimes help in ensuring the screen is getting sufficient power to work. You should then try removing your memory card and sim card, sometimes problems with these cards can manifest themselves as an unresponsive touch screen. Carefully remove the sim and memory card and secure them safely, then try to reboot the device and see if this helped. If the screen is yet not working, you should move to the advanced fixes.

Trying Advance Fixes

There can be hundreds of reasons for an unresponsive touch screen; it can be quite challenging to determine the source of the problem. Sometimes malicious or corrupt files/programs installed in the device can cause the touch to stop responding. It is a good idea to try rebooting your device into safe mode. Booting into safe mode runs the device only with the system provided applications (without any 3rd party applications/files/programs). If the touch works in safe mode, you should try deleting any newly installed app that might have caused the problem.

Next, You can try to adjust the touch sensitivity of your device by heading over to the advanced settings. Windows has a calibration tool that can automatically set the touch sensitivity as per the need. For iOS devices, you can find the touch sensitivity options under accessibility settings by the name of 3D touch.

If none of the above methods works for you and you’re using a Windows device, you can head over to the device manager and then try updating or reinstalling the touch screen drivers. If the issue persists, you should take the device to a technician who can dig deeper into the troubleshooting.
