‘General’ qualifier in its way means that the contractors are adept at various disciplines under the construction industry. One thing to note here is that though they are skilled and experienced in those disciplines, they do not specialize in any singular or particular type. In the present times, construction companies look for hiring professionals who have an educational background in construction and have some applied knowledge in construction management. The Department of construction advises the student to have prior experience in the commercial construction field and have completed basic courses in construction contracts and methods before they apply for the field job. The basic specialized knowledge that employers demand to include project controlling, building design, math, and statistics, cost estimation, building codes, and standards, contract administration, and commercial Real Estate. A degree in Bachelor’s or Master’s of Construction Management, Building Science, or Civil Engineering would be required if you want to actually dive into the field of commercial general contractors. The licensing for your skills or specialization would be followed and guided under the State Contractor’s License and registration with the State’s Department of Labor and Industries.
