It’s been a few months since we’ve felt the itch to travel. Having lost some of Europe’s best travel months of the year to the coronavirus seems almost deathly in itself! Backpacker’s paradise, road-tripper’s envy, foodie’s delight and cruiser’s dream destinations – Europe is everything and more, all rolled into one. So when you can’t actually be there, the best you can do is virtually be there.

Here are 5 European places that are great for virtual visits.

London

This capital city is filled with iconic landmarks everyone’s just waiting to check off their bucket lists – even if it’s a virtual tick. If you’re interested in royalty and governance, Buckingham Palace and the Palace of Westminster have opened virtual doors for the public, and the city’s very own fortress until the 16th century, Tower of London too can be visited virtually. If you’re one for the museums, take virtual tours of the British Museum, National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery and Tate Modern among many others. Of course, the London Eye gives you a 360° virtual ride. 

Paris

A piece in every first-timer’s Europe itinerary, the City of Love is one of the most popular cities for in the virtual world too. First up, check out the view from the top of the Eiffel Tower. If art feeds your soul, Louvre’s magnificent art collections can easily be browsed from the comfort of your couch.  For your dose of history, palaces and churches, head over to virtual tours of the Versailles Palace Apartments and its finely manicured gardens, Musee d’Orsay, Grand Palais or Sacre-Couer Basilica and fill your heart to its satisfaction. Switzerland

Experience snow and Alpine beauty without the layers of clothing and better yet, in your own living room. Italy

Spain

If the unfinished cathedral has fascinated you, Google Earth offers a virtual interior tour of Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia church. If the architect/designer in you has awoken, more of Gaudi’s works are up for virtual viewing. Casa Mila and Casa Batllo both offer virtual tours. The former is known for its innovations in construction, and the latter was built on the affluent Batllo family’s trust in the architect, wherein, they gave him a completely free hand to design their house. And if you’re still looking for whimsical works of Gaudi, Park guell too can be virtually toured. Aside from Gaudi’s works, Musee del Prado in Madrid offers art opportunities. Alhambra Palace in Granada and Sevilla Cathedral are perfect for the monument lovers. 

When you’ve had a long day, most of these cities have a fabulous night life that you can virtually partake in.
