About Mathura

Mathura is a city in Uttar Pradesh, It is the birthplace of Lord Krishna. This city is also famous for its historical events of Lord Krishna. The main pilgrim center in Mathura is the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi temple. The twin-city to Mathura is Vrindavan. There are many places of historic and religious importance in Mathura and its neighboring towns. Janmashtami is the festival which is specially celebrated in Mathura with a large cloud on the occasion of the birth of Lord Krishna. That day Mathura’s beauty is really very amazing.

About Krishna

Krishna was born in the Yadava clan of Mathura to Queen Devaki and her husband, King Vasudeva. Devaki had a brother, Kansa, a tyrant, who along with some other demon kings was terrorizing Mother Earth. Kansa had usurped the throne of Mathura from his father, the benevolent King Ugrasen. Sri Krishna is widely considered by Hindus to be an Avatar – a direct descent of God.  During the Battle of Kurukshetra, Krishna gave Arjuna the immortal spiritual discourse of the Bhagavad Gita – Krishna taught a spiritual path of wisdom, devotion and discrimination. Sri Krishna also popularised devotional bhakti yoga through his time with Radha and the Gopis in Vrindavan. Krishna’s story comes to us in fragments via Sanskrit literature, first in the Mahabharata (that speaks of Krishna’s adulthood amongst the Pandavas), then in the Harivamsa (that speaks of his pastoral foster family), then in the Vishnu Purana (that refers to him as Vishnu’s avatar), then the now popular Shrimad Bhagavata Purana (that refers to the dance with milkmaids at night) and the Geet Govind of Jayadeva (that introduces us elaborately to Radha).Destinations in Mathura
