A Life in Music - Akasa Singh

Akasa Singh shot to place with Sanam Teri Kasam’s song Kheench Meri Photo in 2016 but her journey began way back with Mika Singh’s stage shows. In 2018, one of the most important pop hits came by her within the sort of Thug Ranjha, where she was featured within the video also. Then in 2019, she came back with Naagin that took the web by storm. And now, 2020 seems to be a promising year as she is all charged for several more collaborations and lyrics writing. During an interview, Akasa talks about her journey within the world of music and the way each step has helped her reach new heights.

Post-Thug Ranjha, was there pressure on you to deliver as big successful or as popular a number?

Post-Thug Ranjha I had a year-long gap which was a touch of an obstacle as I gained tons of eyeballs for the only but couldn’t utilize it. I had an enormous Bollywood separate Athey Aa from Bharat and that I had a song with Tanishk Bagchi and Vayu- Maserati. But Naagin was one of my biggest hits. Way beyond expectation.

AKASA, how did Naagin happen and the idea was it to collaborate with another singer Aastha Gill for it?

It was all due to Sony Music – our label. Vayu, Aastha Gill and that I am signed to Sony Music and that they bought us together alongside Puri as a producer to form this song happen. I’ve worked with Vayu before on Thug Ranjha and Maserati and I’ve always had an excellent equation with him. But this is often my first time working for Aastha and it had been a tremendous experience. I remember, we went on a motorcycle ride together (I was driving and Aastha was sitting behind me) and that we were talking about how great it might be to collaborate, and Naagin was so impromptu thereafter!

With independent singles gaining the maximum amount, if less popular than even Bollywood songs, does one think it’s an excellent time to explore your artistic capabilities therein zone? And are there more such projects within the pipeline for you?

Definitely! Ever since I started, I’ve been concentrating on independent music. Especially after aged board with my team at Sony Music, I’ve been ready to create, feature in, and spread independent music more and more explanation for their expertise and support within the pop space. Additionally, independent music provides you a more inclusive scope of experimentation and freedom. I’m first and foremost an indie-pop artist than a Bollywood singer. I even have lots more in store- this was just the beginning!

From being a part of a band to doing covers on YouTube to releasing singles and becoming a playback singer, it’s been a slow and steady rise for you. How does one think of this journey and would you modify anything about it?

Each part of this journey has led me to where I'm now. I wouldn’t change the choices I’ve taken but I even have certainly learned the worth of your time. On reflection, I even have realized how valuable every second are often – maybe I should have started work on my independent music tons sooner. But now I'm not getting to be wasting any longer time – its full speed ahead!

Akasa Singh, What are the sorts of musicians/bands you've got grown-up taking note of, and who are a number of your current favorites now? Is there anyone you search to as a mentor/guiding light from the industry?

I grew up taking note of a mixture of everything because music runs in my family. From Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Sahab to all or any the 90s indie-pop artists to a lot and much of Sunidhi Chauhan then going taking note of Beyoncé, Adele, Coldplay, etc These are my forever favorites. A number of the present music I’m hooked in is by The Yellow Diary, Prateek Kuhad, Ben Howard, Billie Eilish, etc. My guiding lights and mentors from the start are my parents. And last my team at Sony Music that’s helping me achieve through projects what I might dream of while I used to be growing up.

AKASA Singh How was it to help with LAUV?

Coincidentally I had interviewed Lauv for a music portal earlier this year – when he had come right down to Mumbai for a concert. I’ve always been an enormous fan; I and my friends even visited the concert and that we knew every lyric to his songs. Little did I realize that we might soon have a song together! Rochak and Lauv have put together a gorgeous song and I’m honored that they chose my voice for it. The love has been amazing and it’s a surreal atmosphere.

AKASA Singh, tons of singers prefer the stage, while some choose the studio. Are you the previous, who likes to have the stage or the latter?

I desire I'm 100% authentic on stage. I can interact with my audience and celebrate performing – it’s sort of a party! Concerts are more like gaining genuine feedback on your music through the audience. I tend to be a touch conscious within the studio for a few reasons – maybe it’s because I keep this pressure on myself to offer the right take.
