Vehicle Code 4461 VC is the California statute that makes it a crime to misuse a handicap disability parking placard or license plate.
Displaying a disabled placard or plates that: - have been canceled or revoked, or - were issued to someone else;2 or3.
Parking in a designated disabled parking space if you are not disabled.3Exception: transporting the disabled personUnder Vehicle Code 4461 CVC a person may use a disabled placard or plates issued to someone else:- While in the presence or reasonable proximity of the disabled person to whom it was issued, - For the purpose of transporting the disabled person.4Example: Irene is an elderly woman with diabetes.
The placard is good until the earlier of:- 90 days from issuance, or - The date noted by the certifying medical professional on the application.4.3.
