The Jodhpuri Painting is believed to have emerged at the end of the 16th century. The ' Bhagavata Purana' painted during the time of Rao Raising is considered to be the early portrait of the Bikaner King 'Raisingh' (1574-1612E), impressed by the skill of the Mughal artists, he brought some of them with him. Among them were 'Usta Ali Raza' and 'Usta Hamid Ruknuddin'. The art of these two artists gave rise to the Bikaner style of painting. In the early paintings of Bikaner, the Jain school was influenced by the Jain husband Matheran. High Marwari turban, camel herein, Bikaner living, and imprint of Rajput culture are prominent. Pictures were also made on Bhagwat Katha etc. Visions of the pure Bikaner style are seen during the reign of Maharaja Anoop Singh, King Anoop Singh's period is called the golden age of the Bikaner style.

The names of painters like Munna Lal, Mukund (1668), Ramkishan (1170), Jaikishan Matheran, Chandulal (1678), Shivram (1788), Joshi Meghraj (1797), etc. Among the painters, Usta Kayam, Qasim, Abuhmeed, Shah Mohammed, Ahmed Ali, Shahabdin, Jeevan, etc. of the Usta family are prominent. He depicted Rasikapriya, Barhamasa, Ragaragini, Krishna-Leela, Shikar, Mahfil, and Samanta Vaibhav.
