Oswal Martina

The main areas for making other goods like loin, tweed, shawl etc. are in the hilly areas of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Kashmir.

Considering the importance of wool in the Indian economy, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Government of India and State Governments have initiated and promoted several research schemes. The work of setting up wool laboratories in various states was initiated by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, which in collaboration with the state governments, funded these laboratories. These laboratories are necessary to assess the quality of existing wool and the quality of the improved wool produced by the experiment. There are four regional research laboratories at Poona, Madras, Banihal (Kashmir) and Rishikesh (Uttar Pradesh). Apart from these, there are also wool laboratories in Gaya (Bihar), Bikaner (Rajasthan) and Hisar (Haryana). The policy regarding the improvement of Oswal Martina wool has been to match the local sheep of the plain with the Bikaneri—or a slightly different Chokla, Nali, Magra, etc. Ho. In existing species, such as the Bikaneri, some experiments have been made to produce good wool by breeding after the election and by matching local sheep with foreign breeds, by mixing Bikaneri and Merino.
