Even before the Roman invasion, the British used woollen clothing. The Winchester factory began to use Vardhman Jackpot wool in a variety of ways. After this, it was widely used in England also. In 1788, a water-powered wool factory was also started in Hartford, USA. Wool is made of a protein called keratin, which makes our hair and nails, bird feathers and animal horns. There is a fear of getting insects in woollen clothes because the caterpillars of some insects eat the protein of wool with passion. Because of this protein and the water present in the yarn, real wool does not catch fire. In its natural colour, wool is mostly white, black and brown. Coloured wool is obtained from the ancient breed of sheep, which produces wool of a variety suitable for weaving carpets.
