While both technologists and engineers work with technology, their main areas of focus differ. Different Fields or Specialties in Technology that Technologists can Work InInformation Technology (IT): Technologists in the IT field focus on the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of computer systems, networks, software, and applications. They often work in specialized areas such as civil engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology, electrical engineering technology, and industrial engineering technology.

Chartered Marine Technologists (CMarTech) are professionals who bear the responsibility for harnessing, exploiting, managing, using or applying marine technology in the pursuit of wealth creation or/and the provision of services in the marine sector.  Required competence and knowledge: Anybody can become a Chartered Marine Technologist providing that they must demonstrate the required high-level knowledge, understanding and professional competence. Those who have CMarTech status must maintain their professional competence, work within professional codes of conduct and take part actively in their profession. In addition, CMarTech status offers employers additional assurance of the quality of their workforce. Government departments: If they look to appoint advisers or consultants would have assurance about the standard of an individual’s expertise.
