Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year on 26th July. Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated to commemorate the victory of the Kargil war and in memory of the martyred soldiers. Kargil war was fought between the army of India and Pakistan. On 26 July 1999, Indian soldiers defeated the Pakistani army in the Kargil war. Every year this day is celebrated as Victory Day in our country and tribute is paid to the soldiers who died in the war. On this day the President, Prime Minister, Army officers and entire countrymen salute the bravery of the army and pay homage to the martyred soldiers.

Kargil, located on the borders of India and Pakistan, is the world's highest battleground with extreme weather conditions. In 1999, the Kargil war between India and Pakistan took place on a hill named Tiger, which is 205 km from Srinagar. The weather at Tiger Hill is very cold which reaches up to -45 degrees even at night and the nights are very long in this area.
