1. Australian broadcaster Channel Nine
Channel Nine an Australian broadcaster channel faced a cyber-attack on 28th March 2021. It was a Sunday and showtime, the channel was unable to run the bulletin. There was the unavailability of network and internet access at its Sydney headquarters, the attack also interrupted operations at the network’s publishing business as some of the publishing tools were also down. At first, they claimed this was happing due to network issues but then they confirmed that it was a cyber-attack.
2. Water Supply System in Florida
A cybercriminal attempted to poison the water supply in Florida by increasing the amount of sodium hydroxide to a potentially dangerous level which was very dangerous for living organisms. This criminal was able to breach Oldsmar’s computer system and briefly increased the amount of sodium hydroxide from 100 parts per million to 11,100 parts per million. Marco Rubio tweeted that “I will be asking @FBI to provide all the assistance necessary in investigating an attempt to poison the water supply of a #Florida city. This should be treated as the matter of national security.”
3. London-based Harris Federation
Harris Federation suffered a ransomware attack in March 2021. This is a London-based company. This company was forced to temporarily disable the devices and email systems of all the 50 secondary and primary academies it manages. This had a bad impact on the students' courses as 37,000 students being unable to access their coursework and correspondence. NCSC issued an alert about a spike in ransomware attacks on schools.
4. CNA Financial ransomware attack
This is one of the biggest cyber insurance firms in the US. On 21st March 2021, CNA Financial suffered a ransomware attack. The cyber-attack stopped the organization’s customer and employee services for three days. So, CNA decided to shut down to prevent further compromise. This cyber-attack utilized a new version of the Phoenix Crypto Locker malware, which is a form of ransomware.
5. Microsoft Cyber Attack
On March 6th, 2021 a mass cyber-attack affected millions of Microsoft clients around the world. The threat criminals continuously forced four zero-day vulnerabilities in Microsoft’s Exchange Server. This was a very tough and difficult situation. According to the report, it is believed that over nine government agencies, and 60,000 private companies in the US alone, were affected by the attack. This was a Mass cyber-attack.
