The recessed plate machine works very similarly to remove solids from liquids. In this system, the plates are about two to four feet apart and have a concave depression in the middle, hence the name. The solution is squeezed through the hole, across which a cloth is pulled. As before, the liquid passes through and the solids remain, forming a cake. However, in this version, the cake cannot be thicker than 32 mm before cleaning. This machine also takes longer to change the fabric and can create an uneven cake.
