How to Cite a Book in ACS Referencing Style?

ACS stands for American Chemical Society, which developed the ACS Citation style for academic writing in chemistry. Similar to most citation styles, the ACS style of citations also consists of two parts – in-text citation and the reference list. In this blog, we will discuss the basics of how to cite a book in ACS style, covering both ways of citing the source.

Citing a Book in ACS Style of Citation

When it comes to the in-text citing of books in ACS style, you can do it in three ways:

  • By superscript numbers:
  • You can put the superscript at the end of the sentence where the information is used.
  • Or, you can put the superscript right after the data within the text.

  • By italic numbers in parentheses:
  • You can put the citation number within parentheses at the end of the sentence before the period.
  • Or, you can put the number with parentheses right beside the information within theessay writer

  • By author-date system:
  • If the source you are citing has two authors, provide the surname of both authors, separated by “and” (Paul and Alan, 2003).
  • If there are more than two authors, provide the surname of the first author listed, and then write “et al.” (Paul et al., 2003).

If you are choosing to use an ACS citation machine to generate the citation entries, you still need to know about these details to conduct the citation in the Assignment Expert right manner.

For the Works Cited list, you need to provide more detailed information about the source than what is presented in the in-text citation. You can use an ACS Citation generator to properly format the citations in this section. However, there is no harm in knowing how to format the  research writing services citation information in the “Works Cited” list.

Author surname, initial. Name of the book, book edition; Publisher name: Location of the publisher, year of publication; page number

Here is an example:

Paul, J. L. Operational inorganic chemistry: how the inorganic substances react, 6th ed.; Humming Bird Publication: West 49 Street, N. Y., 2006; p 62.
