Our elders say, when the world lies in the dark with all the evil and turmoil around, then arises a mighty god to destroy all these strives and rule the universe by giving the boons to the human beings, such is the avatars of goddess Lakshmi or ever per say, the avatar of Vishnu Murthy. Even Lord Krishna emerged for the same cause to remove the evil acts done by king kansa and protect the earth with compassion and love.
Janmashtami or as we call Shree Krishna Janmashtami or Gokul Ashtami is an auspicious day when Krishna Bhagavan took his birth on this planet earth. This is the festival where every Indian family celebrates with great pomp and show in the month of Shravan that falls in August or September, as per Hindu festival it is celebrated on the day of krishna paksh or Ashtami.
In many mythological books, we find Krishna as a blue-black skin coloured boy who performs childish acts by stealing butter from the houses of gopikas in Vrindavan. Hence, every year we celebrate to adorn Krishna's birth with great happiness
How do we Hindus celebrate Krishna Janmashtami in many different ways?
The celebrations in some parts of India starts 10 days before the actual date. In many temples, there will be Abhishek to Lord Krishna by decorating the whole divine place with rangolis and flowers. Dahi handi is a major celebration where a team of young boys and girls try to reach the pot and break it, while others in the neighbourhood try to cheer, encourage and tease them up. They even splash colour water, sing and dance to the beats by creating a festive atmosphere wonderfully. Even the cash prizes were distributed to the team or persons who won this. In places like Iscon, performance acts, dances and devotional songs were sung. Parents also dress up their children as Gopikas and Krishna and love to celebrate their homes with beautiful festival lights, flowers etc.
There will be various prasdams and naivedhyams including corn vada, daddojanam, different flavoured rice items, sweets like peda etc are distributed in their locality by decorating their houses in multiple ways.
