Gears are devices used in machines and vehicles for increasing speed or decreasing speed. These gears usually consist of a tooth form. These teeth are generated by a hobbing machine that performs the task of cutting the gears into tooth forms. These hobs are used to cut different parts of the gear such as sprockets, splines etc. It is a device used to make series of cuts to form a design. The hob manufacturers in India provide hobs to the industries engaged in manufacturing gears for aircraft, railways or any industries.  Hobbing is performed for increasing productivity and speed of the gears. 

Uses of hobbing

The gears consist of a tooth form and this form is molded using a hob. This structure is formed by rotatiation of the blank gear and it is used in the industries to increase productivity. These hobs are known for dimensional accuracy and several gears can be produced within a shorter time. Hobbing is one of the rapid method for cutting tooth for several gears. The hob manufacturers in India produce different types of hobs with different designs and patterns to suit the requirement. Worm gear hobs

The two types of designs of the worm gears are bore and shank and the two types are tangible and radial.  

Involutes Spline Hobs

These hobs are used to produce serrations and splines. The pressure of these gear hobs is usually higher 30 degree to 45 degree consisting of single-thread or multi-thread designs.

Involutes Hobs

The tooth form of the involute gear is straightly arranged with higher diameter pitches and the pressure of the angles is also higher. 

Sprocket Hobs

These gear cutting hobs used to form tooth-like structure is designed in the form of chain sprocket. The hobs may consist of topping or may not consist of topping. 

Shank Hobs

It is used in industries to cut and mold the gears into particular shapes in a speedier way. 

 Hobbing is a process of cutting teeth continuously into various shapes or designs using a machining hob. These hobs and gear blanks rotate continuously until the teeth are fully cut. Using a hob, different types of gears can be manufactured such as worms, splines, etc. It is one of the rapid gear cutting processes as you can produce several finished gears within a shorter period. 

The hobbing involves three main processes namely the indexing, cutting motion and the return stroke. But, using a hob you cannot cut the internal parts of the gear that consist of teeth inside. They are automated machines used to rapidly cut the gears. The gear cutting hobs are used to cut the teeth of a blank gear.  This process is used to make gears and also spurs. A hobbing machine is used to cut the grooves of teeth. It is a device that rotates and evenly cuts the blank gears into proper shapes.
