Both take out their frustrations on the other. Patrick's (Gabriel Basso) parents (Megan Mullally and Marc Evan Jackson) smother him with stupid, overbearing custody, so he follows Joe's lead. Biagio (Moises Arias) is also there, but no one knows anything about him. He stalks them like a slightly deranged stray puppy, and none of them have the courage or heart to send him to hell.

The three promise to live faithfully on earth, to do everything themselves, to be their people, and to make their own rules. Technically, this is a story about adulthood, but you have to understand that independence or freedom is not just a matter of maturity, and that a boy cannot become a man in a day or even a summer just by running away from home. The film doesn't say much, especially about becoming an adult. I'm sure it says nothing. Not a single word says anything other than what the character saying thinks. But it shows us a lot.
The forest to find and find something
This way of interpreting is more difficult, but it feels more organic and allows us to draw our conclusions. Like those kids who go into the forest to look for something and end up finding it in the wrong place. Much of the film is filled with what we call "filler," with kids exploring and playing in the woods, often with dramatic slow-motion shots or close-ups. Perhaps they could be called "filler," but when I watched the film (especially the second time around).
Performance is good with hilarious pain and everything
I easily appreciated the wonder of these episodes, showing the beauty of the land and the bonds of friendship. Or, in later episodes, about how no matter where you are - in the forest or civilization - the pain of life is the same. All the performances are good, with humor, pain, and everything in between. Nick Offerman, a true professional, stands out with his best performance, but the kids aren't outdone either. Moises Arias plays a rather eccentric comedian, though he has his moments as well. Of the other two, Nick Robinson is certainly a star, but not a big one, and Gabriel Basso also has his moments.
The film manages to entertain as well as inform
Only occasionally are some of the more tense moments missed, with the camera work more often confusing than enhancing the acting. They are very good at times, and both (with good scripts) pull off moments that almost anyone can match. The film is not without the dark side of teenage angst, but it also has a light, sharp side, full of fun, jokes, and great sarcastic style. It's funny and witty, sometimes at the same time. At times, the film feels like a reflection, but it doesn't forget to prioritize entertainment and does so with style and skill.
