How To Fix Google Photos Not Showing Images / Video Files

Toggle network
A common cause of this problem is due to network problems. So first, disable all networks (WiFi and cellular data) and then enable airplane mode. Then wait a few seconds and turn off airplane mode. After this, turn on the desired network and see if it works.

Disable battery optimizations
If you've enabled Battery Saver or any other related battery optimization feature, now should be the right time to turn it off. This is because, to preserve battery life, they become a bit overprotective and tend to block most of the app's functionality, especially those running in the background. Therefore, it is recommended to turn them off immediately.

Clear Google Photos data
Cached and temporary data is known to cause a lot of problems, so it is always recommended to delete all of this data after regular intervals. After doing the same with Google Photos, you won't lose any data, it's just that all your settings will revert to their default settings.

Delete temporary files
Temporary Internet files can also cause this problem. To solve the problem, just delete these files. If you want to restore deleted files on computer, you can try MiniTool Partition Wizard's data recovery function.

Step 1: Find Disk Cleanup and open it.

Step 2: Select the system drive to clean. Here is selected by default, so just click OK to start scanning.

Step 3: After the scan is complete, select Temporary Files and click OK to delete. Some other files, including temporary internet files, are marked by default, just leave them as is.

Re-enable Google Photos

Disabling then re-enabling Photos would make the app start over and could also rectify the underlying problem. From their point of view, this is what should be done:

  • Head to Settings> Apps and notifications
  • Then tap See all apps and scroll to Google Photos.
  • Touch Deactivate> Deactivate app.
  • Wait a few seconds and then tap Activate. See if it fixes the problem.
