A stress test is a test in which a doctor measures a heart performance in a controlled environment. Generally, the doctor asks the patient to do physical activities like walking on a treadmill or any other task that makes the heart work progressively hard. 

The doctor measures the heart's electrical rhythms through an electrocardiogram (ECG) monitor. In some cases, the doctor checks for blood pressure; if the patient shows symptoms like chest discomfort or fatigue.
