Khopra trek is known as Kopra Ridge Trek or Khopra Khayar Lake Trek as well. this is off the beaten trekking trail and along with the remote Himalaya range of Kopra ridge and through forests with traditional villages in the heart of Annapurna region. One of the world's greatest, the Khayer trek offers you views of the Annapurna range and gigantic Mt. Dhaulagiri which are entirely breathtaking and complement many of our unique campsites during this two-week trek.
For the words, Khayar Lake sometimes people pronounce as Khair Tal (Lake) also. This is a newly open trekking trail in combination with the most popular Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek and Himalayan wilderness. The Khopra Khayar Lake Trek is in the heart of the Annapurna region and has the power of magnetic attraction on trekkers. The trail still remains a largely secret trekking route whereas the Annapurna region is more frequented by trekkers. The majestic Dhaulagiri (8,167m) is the seventh highest mountain of the world, Nilgiri, Tukuche peak, Annapurna south, Himchuli, Fish-tail, Lamjung Himal, Annapurna IV, III, Dampus Peak, Mana Pathi Peak, and Annapurna Fang all plunk up in line wearing a veil of endless snow. During the spring season, the Khayer Trek will enhance your spirit with the glow of various flowers including Rhododendron and Magnolia. Khayer Lake is a holy site, where people are praying for their success. On top of this visit, Khayer will put you in the open arms of locals and their strong and colorful cultural traditions. Every March to August all the local people get together on the Khayer Lake and engage in a traditional ritual. Yak is slain and drinks the blood while it is hot. They believe it is the ideal treatment for any kind of illness. On the next occasion, during the day of sacred-thread replacement at August full moon (Janai Purnima), people believe that they will receive everything wish for when they pray to Khayar Baraha. In particular, the married barren women ask for fertility.
There are several routes for the Khopra Ridge Trek, you can begin the trip from Beni Galeshwar as a recently developed community-based trekking route, and then walk through the Bashkharka, Nagi, Mohare Danda, Poon Hill, Ghorepani, Swanta, Khopra Danda, Khayer Lake, Dhan Kharka/Chistibang, Bayeli, Bhaisi Kharka/ Dobate, Isharu, Mashar then catch Ghorepani Trekking main trail at Tadapani. Or you can start the trip from Tatopani, Narchang, and Nayapul but Nayapul is the shortest drive from Pokhara. The trail ascends a series of forested ridges from Swanta, away from the more popular routes, passing through the traditional villages, lush forests then finally to the sacred Khayer Lake. Besides these, the sunrise and sunset view from Ghorepani Poon hill is most excellent. An amazing view of Hiunchuli and Annapurna south is a taste of things to come as we gradually ascend through rhododendron forest and alpine meadows to camp beneath the splendid Fang Face of Annapurna I. From Khopra Danda, it is best to day hike to the Lake “Khayer Baraha” situated at 4,700 meters. This lake is down in the lap of the south Annapurna and from here we can enjoy the view of Kali Gandaki (the deepest gorge in the world). We end our trip collecting boundless experience either in Nayapul or Phedi. Our crew will lead the singing and dancing in Pokhara during our last night together before we return to Kathmandu.
